Caritas Australia shows the value compassion through several of their appeals, such as “Project Compassion”. The appeal is held throughout the six weeks of lent and has the goal of raising money so Caritas can work towards a better future in other countries. This year, Caritas raised $11.57 million that went towards the cyclone in Vanuatu and the earthquake in Nepal. These acts of compassion are in link with the gospel passage, psalm 146:7-8 as it says “He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. This appeal was established in 1990 and had the aim of helping to reduce poverty, including almost halving the number of children around the world who die before their fifth birthday, the appeal has been preventing 14,000 fewer children dying every day. This appeal links with the passage Colossians 3:12-13 saying “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone.” This shows hospitality as it says “clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” which means act out kind gestures, Caritas shows this by raising money (especially in the appeal “Join the Movement to End Poverty”) and awareness for people in countries filled with poverty to hopefully change their
