Carey Maguire In The Great Gatsby

The main characters in this film have very different roles, however never having watched Great Gatsby before I’d say the actors and actresses have portrayed their roles successfully. Tobey Maguire portrays his role as this shy yet curious man that with no real emotion. Leonardo DiCaprio plays a wealthy man that lives each day hoping for the love of his life to return to him. Leo’s posture and confident smile creates this character that cares only for some, but when he cares, he cares with his whole heart. Carey Mulligan plays a rich girl that wants what’s best for her. She portrays this role very successfully as the use of her emotions to manipulate everybody for her own pleasure is shown through her facial expressions. Her eyes in particular,

The characters of The Great Gatsby can all be viewed in two opposing ways. They have a personality and aura about them that nobody would ever question. In an era of unprecedented wealth and personal freedom, there is so much more to these characters than first meets the eye. There is no better example of this than Jay Gatsby. Gatsby, a member of the “new” rich, holds extrordanary parties every weekend at his estate on the shore of West Egg.…

In The Great Gatsby, the titular character displays qualities that could reasonably justify him for multiple forms of judgement, both good and bad. He’s careless, optimistic, veiled by Daisy, and passionate all at once. In my personal opinion, Jay Gatsby isn’t a truthful man, that is, he masks who he really is with his gentlemanly etiquette and over-the-top parties. He is insincere about other things, such as going to Oxford and growing up rich, but I will be focusing more on the present Gatsby and how his behaviour among other things don’t accurately represent the real Gatsby. Examples can be found in when he first meets Daisy again, when Gatsby interacts with Tom at the hotel, and even during Gatsby’s funeral.…

Humans establish expectations in an attempt to better control the world around them. However, Randy K. Milholland points out that, “It hurts to find out that what you wanted doesn’t match what you dreamed it would be.” He is expressing that when expectations are set regarding a situation or conflict, the actual outcomes are often disappointing in light of the predetermined “reality”. Humans enjoy trying to create their own reality because it provides a specific type of all-encompassing power. Unfortunately, these expectations are not always met, leaving the dreamer disappointed and thinking about the more favorable outcomes and what “could have been”.…

The novel is a better and detailed version of a story about a man who is fighting for the love of his life, but she is already a wife and mother. Although the movie was a helpful visual of the novel with the use of actors and props, it did not stay as faithful to novel as one would expect and want it to be. The Great Gatsby…

Films that are adaptations of novels at times leave out important things that made the novel so special, and in return the film ends up as a poor portrayal of the story. In the novel The Great Gatsby, Scott Fitzgerald devotes a considerable amount of attention to build up the relationship between Nick Carraway and Jordan baker, as well as providing Nick Carraway the ability to have more freedom in the way he expresses his thoughts and feelings. These concepts shift in the scene from the film directed by Baz Luhrmann, as it does not portray the intimate relationship between Nick Carraway and Jordan Baker. The main focus of the film is Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan, and because of that, it does not allow for another romance in the story. The film 's restraint of time also damages its ability to express the thoughts and feelings of the characters, specifically Nick Carraway.…

The Greater Great Gatsby The book the Great Gatsby has been depicted by lots of films, but the two that stand out the most are the 1974 and the 2013 versions. The1974 movie has strengths and weaknesses when comparing it to the book as does the 2013 version. Analyzing each movie and closely examining its connection to the book took some time. Finally the 1974 movie is a more noteworthy adaptation of the book then the 2013, in that this version was better at keeping the essence of the characters and conveying F. Scott Fitzgerald 's purpose in the writing the novel.…

The Great Gatsby is a love story about two people meeting again and the meeting changes the course of their lives forever. In the novel, Fitzgerald portrays women as playing a subordinate role to men, but he also includes self-sufficient women as well. A feminist look on The Great Gatsby focuses on the female characters presented in the novel such as Daisy, Myrtle, Jordan, and other minor female roles. Fitzgerald uses these characters to make a point about women and the American society in the 1920s.…

The great Gatsby My thesis statement is that F Scott FitzGerald main theme for the great Gatsby was the American dream. He had this idea that any person, no matter what you look like or who you are, you can become successful in life if you work hard at it. Gatsby on the other hand was based on this entire theme evolving around him. Gatsby and Fitzgerald both pursed this dream by going to a lonely farmer to selling drug and illegal alcohol for money to become rich. Fitzgerald on the other hand, he made practice with his writing until he started making book which became best sellers.…

Since based off the same book both are remotely the same there some major differences though. The actors are different so therefore they each played the part differently. I think that Leonardo played a better Gatsby his presentation of him was far better than Redford’s. He became the part, to me Redford had no emotion whatsoever. I think the love was better shown in the 2013 version rather than the 1974 version.…

The “Great Gatsby” is a lot more extensive than what meets the eye. This is true throughout the book, with the dynamics of the characters and the scenery. On the outside, some characters seem to be a lot more admirable than they should be seen as. For example, Daisy with her amiableness but dark secrets that eventually just cause others pain. Then there is Gatsby, who seems like he’s an extroverted intellectual when really he just keeps books around to seem more wealthy and is only interested in the attention of Daisy.…
