This can result in a reduction in the symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression and interpersonal relationships may improve. Another benefit of solution focused counselling is that the client and counsellor identify clear goals at the start. As a result of this the client and counsellor will both know what success looks like and therefore can easily identify when counselling is no longer required. Solution Focus counselling assumes that all people have strengths and inner resources to solve life changes. In the counselling sessions with Carla she has to be told that she is the expert in her life and she has the inner resources to begin to make small changes in her life. She would be assured that she is not the problem but the problem is the problem. The counselling session would help Carla to identify the changes that is accruing and help her to increase that level of change. It is also important to allow Carla to know that change is one of life’s constant and not only is changing possible it is always happening. Carla would begin the change with small steps. Self-concept changes over time, and develops as a result of experience. As such, career development is lifelong. By identifying Super’s theory to Carla situation she would be informed that her career choices will change over time. Super refers to this stage as the exploration stage between the age 15ys to 24 years where she will be trying out through classes, work and hobbies. Carla would make a tentative choice and skill development. At this stage she would be learning more about opportunities. Super’s theory states that vocational development is the process of developing and implementing a self-concept. As the self-concept becomes more realistic and stable, so does vocational choice and behaviour. People choose occupations that permit them to express their self-concepts. Work satisfaction is related to the degree that they’ve been able to implement their self-concepts. Exploration (Mid teens through early 20’s) - major tasks are to develop a realistic self-concept and implement a vocational preference though role try outs and exploration; there is a gradual narrowing of choices leading to implementation of a preference.
