The essential education needed to become a career and technical education teacher (CTE) is a Bachelor’s Degree with some work experience in the field of teaching. Public school teachers usually need a state certificate or license. You would need to take several different classes in college while working towards your degree such as Education and Training, Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, and Math and Science completed in an accredited teacher education program (Career/Technical Education Teachers, Middle School). Not only do you need the education but good skills, experience, and personality traits, because how could animals hunt without learning and experiencing it first? Entry level teachers usually have previous exposure to teaching younger children as student teachers, interns, substitutes and teacher aides. Personality traits are a big part of being a teacher, having to work with students, staff and parents. From the beginning of this ladder in being a CTE teacher, you would start as a student teacher and/or substitute teacher. Then with time, dedication and more experience you may advance to a middle school or high school teacher. From there you can work your way to becoming a mentor teacher or get an administrative position, teachers may also become school counselors, instructional coordinators, and principals. These positions generally require additional education, an advanced degree, and certification. An advanced degree in education administration or leadership may be helpful (Middle School Teacher).
