Public high schools were now offered to further education and practical skills. This would be a step forward and shy away from the classical blueprint of schooling for the rich elite to learn. The golden age of Vocational learning was at its prime in 1876-1926. The first manual training school was developed in 1879 in St. Louis, Mo. The school would lead to an emphasis on career and technical education as Well as a hands on approach in the classroom. The last century emphasized the importance of agricultural education schools.
The 20th century endured two different world Wars over the course of 30 years. The defense industry evolved into a more progressive force, which required highly trained individuals to operate its technology, People reentering the workforce needed to keep up with the new technology and how to use it. The increasing influence of technology in both wars led to more acceptance of CTE across the country.
Today the typical American high school offers Vocational courses which provide access to college credits. The process begins as early as 9th and 10th grade with "discovery courses which high school students to see what the like and are good at. In 11th and 12th grade
