There are specific requirements to be a photography teacher, although anyone can teach someone how to hold a camera and how to take pictures, photographer instructors are experienced and have specific skills, that they have learned from majoring in photography, which are crucial for teaching a photography course. Those skills, according to study.com, are, “instructional and organizational skills, photography, patience, entry software, Microsoft Access, graphics or photo imaging software and Excel.” They also know how to use various forms of cameras, from traditional and digital. To be a photography teacher, they first need to earn an undergraduate degree in photography. According to study.com, “earning an undergraduate degree in photography gives potential instructors familiarity technical knowledge the teach students” They learn about equipment, development techniques, digital retouching, and different methods of photography. Then, they need to earn a bachelor’s degree. In which, they will explore, “more-in-depth concepts and theories, and they also learn how to refine their creative eye”, according to Doug Jones, who is a career guidance. Finally, they are recommended to earn a Master’s degree. Earning a Master’s degree, “prepares students to think critically as artists, instructors, and professionals. Theory and practice are also explored more critically, and student’s gain more hands-on practices,” according to Doug Jones. To teach, it is also required to obtain a license or certification, especially in elementary and secondary schools.
