Getting a job is not necessarily something everyone looks forward to, but it is part of becoming an adult. After high school, students usually plan on attending college or going straight into the workplace. Regardless, at some point in life, work is necessary to make money for a living. Choosing a career may be difficult, but spending time researching different careers before settling on one will be worth it in the end. After researching about the duties and responsibilities of an accountant, I believe that entering the workforce as an account is a good choice for me. To be an accountant, I do have to go to college. Since there are many different types of accountants, not every accountant does every single one of those tasks. The Encyclopedia states, “Accountants may specialize in areas such as auditing, tax work, cost accounting, budgeting and control, or systems and procedures” (“Accountants and Auditors” 1). The duties of accountants differ depending on which branch option is chosen. Because there are many different responsibilities for an accountant, there are different branches, which include “public, private, and government accounting” (“Accountants and Auditors” 1). Although this is the median, salaries can vary drastically based on experience and the importance of the job. The salary range is from $43,020 to $122,220 (Bureau). Depending on which percent each accountant falls in, determines their pay, but the longer I work as an accountant, the more I will earn. The need for accountants is necessary in almost every occupation. The Occupational Outlook Handbook states, “Employment of accountants and auditors is projected to grow 10 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations” (Bureau). The need for accountants is expected to increase, therefore competition for the job may decrease. In Alabama, there are average opportunities for this career (O*Net).
