At the beginning of the semester I was somewhat intimated by the amount of course work that was expected of each student in this class. However, as time went on and I started to complete the assignments, it became clear how useful many of them were, particularly the resume and the career exploration paper. Both of these assignments were beneficial in their own way, despite the time and effort that went in to completing them according to the instructions. The resume and subsequent critiques from multiple sources yielded a professional document that is flawless and ready to be disseminated to potential employers after a minor customization to it based upon the job description and requirements. The career exploration assignment has taught me how…

As a healthcare professional, continuing professional development (CPD) is essential to meeting significant clinical benchmarks such as those put in place by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). These standardise the quality of a nursing professional's technical and theoretical care and delineate the essential aspects of care given – emphasising the value of clinical portfolios and the vital role they play in the development of careers. Groves (2014) defines CPD as “a professional requirement for nurses that involves learning in practice” as training nurses to deliver exceptional care during practice can safeguard and improve the public’s health and wellbeing (Groves, 2014). The importance of high quality care is also emphasised by the NMBA, calling for knowledge and skills to be kept current, and for the “standards of professional code of conduct” to be upheld (Nursing and Midwifery Council [NMC] as cited in Groves, 2014).…

However if you are switching careers or re-entering the workforce the chronological resume is not the format you want to use. The functional resume is useful for people who have gaps in their work history, frequently job changes or looking to transition into careers.…
