Networking, branding, and mentoring all play major roles in the career planning and job hunting process. There are numerous benefits to developing successful networking techniques, and doing so can help strengthen or change ones career. It is important to utilize various strategies to expand ones professional network such as, virtual or face-to-face. Networking can provide a better understanding of various careers as well as information about numerous companies. With this information, the career planning process can be based on direct information rather than rumors or biased company literature. Networking has emerged as one of the primary ways to land a job. Branding is a long-term marketing strategy that draws attention to the ways in which one is special and unique. Branding can be defined as a sum of attributes that an individual possesses, and how the business community perceives these attributes (Loveless, 2016). As a professional, one must be consistent and visible in all they say, do and write. Therefore, being consistent equals reliability, which removes the guesswork and risk from working with you. In addition to letting, others know who you are, a professional brand helps define how you want to be seen by others but provides professional direction, focus and motivation when developed as part of a career management strategy (Loveless, 2016). The following are ways I keep my brand consist. First, I use LinkedIn to connect with other like-minded individuals within my career field. Second, I keep my LinkedIn profile consist with my resume, which builds integrity. Lastly, I tell my story, which includes how my career and experience affects those I work …show more content…
First, the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), which is designed to increase the implementation and standards of electronic health records (EHRs). AHIMA is a leader in the management of health data and medical records which is needed to deliver quality healthcare to the public (AHIMA, 2016a). Becoming a member of this organization would allow me to stay current with coding, privacy and security issues, clinical documentation improvement, and health information technology (AHIMA, 2016b). Second, is the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), which is designed to help medical practice administrators stay current on benchmarking data, solutions to various practice problems, best practices, coordination of care, and improving quality of care for patients. Being a member of this organization would allow me the benefits of seeing how private and group practices operate and the challenges they are faced with when providing care to their patients. Becoming a successful professional requires having a great mentor. Mentors can provide insight and expertise in a specific career field and can help guide individuals to achieve their goals (Quast, 2013).
