Super (1955) was the pioneer to start off the concept of career maturity in the Career Pattern Study. At the beginning, career maturity was called "vocational maturity". Super defined career maturity as " the place reached (by the individual) on the continuum of vocational development from exploration to decline" (Super, 1955, p. 153). Later, Super (1984) simplified the concept of career maturity to the readiness of an individual in making decision about career matters.

Planning attitudes is about thinking and preparing the future about career. Mature attitudes are whereby individuals look into the future and enthusiastically involve in activities regarding career planning. However, immature attitudes usually reluctant individuals to plan for their future career thus they do not feel the necessity to acquaint and equip themselves to career. Hence, attitudes toward career exploration are about the readiness to search and use good resources to plan the career. Fenning and May (2013) studied the effec of self-efficacy and self-concept toward academic performance and career path in a college. Result showed that higher level of self-efficacy can help individuals get more information and consider more career choices. This enable them to have a better preparation for their future career. Thus, when students were more confident in academic and the ability in obtaining a job, they were more likely to believe that their career choice was achievable.
