Going into the Alpha Kappa Psi Career Day, I was not seeking an internship. This was my first Alpha Kappa Psi Career Day, and I was going to gain information for what I should do for next year to receive an internship, to have more confidence at next year’s Career Day, and for my BIS 101WI class. I had learned many things by attending this Career Day that I will not need to worry about for the next Career Day. My Career Fair Reflection Paper

Overview The Alpha Kappa Psi Career Day was something that I had never been to before. My overall experience was positive, but it was also a little stressful and overwhelming. Walking into the building, the workers were very inviting and were helpful to point me into the direction I needed to go. As I entered the main room with all the companies, I became quickly overwhelmed. The first thing I did entering the main room was signing in, and grabbing a map that showed what table different companies were at. I then went over to the LinkedIn Photo Booth where I the worker of that station took my photo (Figure 1). Figure 1. Photo of Tyler Preciado at the Alpha Kappa Psi Career Day I had prepared two questions prepared to ask the companies that I talk to. Those two questions were the following:

It took a lot of self-motivation for me to approach someone to talk to them, but once I introduced myself as a sophomore, I could tell that they immediately began to lose interest in me. I asked them my first question if the offered half summer internships and they replied that they do not normally offer that. I then followed that answer with my second question, “What would you recommend for someone looking for an internship in the future to do and provide for a company?” The person said that for their internships, they usually recommend people that are older and later in their education to

I first started looking for a summer internship during the spring 2015 school semester. I used various outlets and applied to many jobs in Long Island, NY and in Albany, NY. I found that using career websites, such as CareerSaint or Indeed.com, did not result in me finding much because I would send out my resume, and not really know who my resume went to so I could not follow up with the company if I wanted to. So, I started researching online, mainly using search engines such as Google.com, companies that I thought would be a good fit for me. My major is Actuarial Science, however I am still looking at working in different areas in business in order to find something that I really enjoy doing and can see myself doing as a career for the rest of my life.…

There is never a day when I don't look at myself in amazement. That is because I am still surprised that I did not quit the Phi Theta Kappa officer team. Even though I keep myself from having emotional breakdowns on campus, there were days I questioned why I am still an officer. If anybody told me that I would be a chapter officer of an internationally proclaimed honor society, I would smile while laughing hysterically in my head. I barely could talk in front of a crowd, let alone lead an entire chapter.…
