I was amazed as I walked into the ACES Career Fair. I knew there would be a lot of businesses at this event, but I was not able to quantify just how many until I walked around. Since I grew up on a grain farm, I have been familiar with many of these companies surrounding me, such as John Deere, AgriGold, and Pioneer. However, before the career fair, I still researched what companies would be present on Handshake, and I formulated a plan to speak with AgriGold, DuPont Pioneer, Growmark, and Farm Business Farm Management (FBFM). Once I made this decision, I wrote down the tasks associated each internship position a company offered. This way I was educated and ready learn more about the positions within each company during my interview. The day of the ACES Career Fair I wore a suit, and made sure my overall appearance was professional looking. I was lured to this company, since I had purchased seed from them, and I knew Pioneer is a well-known seed company in my area. I was interested in being able to interact with farmers as I interviewed them, and to learned more about sales initiatives. As I read more about this position, I did not like how much traveling this internship required to meet with multiple farmers within an area. In my interview, I learned the company focuses on marketing their quality products to their customers. My internship would allow me to have a perspective on what it is like to be a seed dealer by meeting with customers and seeing experienced negotiating skills practiced.
