ACES Career Fair Reflection
I was amazed as I walked into the ACES Career Fair. I knew there would be a lot of businesses at this event, but I was not able to quantify just how many until I walked around. Since I grew up on a grain farm, I have been familiar with many of these companies surrounding me, such as John Deere, AgriGold, and Pioneer. However, before the career fair, I still researched what companies would be present on Handshake, and I formulated a plan to speak with AgriGold, DuPont Pioneer, Growmark, and Farm Business Farm Management (FBFM). Once I made this decision, I wrote down the tasks associated each internship position a company offered. This way I was educated and ready learn more about the positions within each company during my interview. The day of the ACES Career Fair I wore a suit, and made sure my overall appearance was professional looking. Then, before each interview, I would review my company notes page and personably greet each recruiter.

I was lured to this company, since I had purchased seed from them, and I knew Pioneer is a well-known seed company in my area. I was interested in being able to interact with farmers as I interviewed them, and to learned more about sales initiatives. As I read more about this position, I did not like how much traveling this internship required to meet with multiple farmers within an area. In my interview, I learned the company focuses on marketing their quality products to their customers. My internship would allow me to have a perspective on what it is like to be a seed dealer by meeting with customers and seeing experienced negotiating skills practiced. The company representative stated that I needed to go to the company’s website to learn even more about this

Future Profession Interview When assigned an interview in my freshman level English class, there was no doubt in my mind that Clint Selman, my honors psychology professor, would be my first choice. Professor Selman is by far one of my favorite professors and I, coincidentally, hope to someday have his exact career. Selman works as a professor of psychology at Tyler Junior College as well as a part-time counselor at the Samaritan Counseling Center of Tyler. He has a lot of experience in the field of psychology, so I figured he was my best option to learn how to get the most out of my education as well as help me better understand the career that I want and how to get it.…

An internship is supposed to provide hands on learning experience; this is exactly what Scarf’s nursery and Landscaping provided for me. It provided a realistic view of what goes on in the horticulture industry and I got to meet very important people that have influence my life greatly while working at Scarfs. I worked in various departments in order to get a complete grasp of the nursery. I worked in the Container department, Potting department, Propagation department, and in the Field. In the containers department I retrieved orders for customers and pruned and trimmed plants.…

Prior to the UNI Career Fair, I did some research on the University website to try to figure out which booths I was interested in visiting. The Lutheran Services in Iowa booth wasn’t one that was particularly on my list. This company is a non-profit organization that helps people who are struggling to parent children with behavioral or mental health issues. I wasn’t exactly sure what Lutheran Services In Iowa was all about until I walked past their station, and saw words on a poster saying “help children” and “family focus”.…

This memo is to inform you of the experience I had at the career fair I attended on September 18th and 19th at Bramlage Coliseum. The companies I talked were as follows: Cargill, 21st Century Equipment LLC, Central Valley Ag Cooperative, Cattle Empire LLC, Civic Plus, and Christensen Farms & Feedlots, Inc.…

Due to this being my first job fair visit, I did not remember either of the two representative’s names. I provided context why I was interested in sparrow: I knew hospitals would have internship opportunities in many fields, as well as that is the hospital that I was born in. When asking about job internships, they provided an instruction sheet on how to apply for the internships. I mentioned that I am a freshman and was hoping an internship would help steer me in a certain direction of business that I am interested in. One of the representatives explained how job shadowing would be more beneficial in my case of…

At the beginning of the semester I was somewhat intimated by the amount of course work that was expected of each student in this class. However, as time went on and I started to complete the assignments, it became clear how useful many of them were, particularly the resume and the career exploration paper. Both of these assignments were beneficial in their own way, despite the time and effort that went in to completing them according to the instructions. The resume and subsequent critiques from multiple sources yielded a professional document that is flawless and ready to be disseminated to potential employers after a minor customization to it based upon the job description and requirements. The career exploration assignment has taught me how…

I’ve been shown with this experience how important it is for me to keep working at my people skill, that my ability to efficiently communicate is the bases for success with a sales job like selling flooring or lighting fixtures. This internship has helped me grow as a person and gain confidence. My favorite part of my internship was when Cozette and I were working with a client on a new construction job. The client brought in a completed floor plan, and came to select finishes and cabinetry. As we were walking through the floor plan we discussed the layouts of the bathrooms and kitchen.…

When I found out about the job and internship fair assignment I was very excited to visit the booths and experience a job fair for the first time. It was a very new experience but I enjoyed and plan on visiting more throughout my time here at UT. I visited three booths at the job fair; the campus dining booth, the Pepsi booth, and the Pilot booth. All three companies had a lot of information and insight to share about their companies.…

My internship experience was experiential, very educational, and stressful at times. I will never be able to thank you enough, Dr. Wigley, because of you, I was given the opportunity to ask about Allied’s internship program when they were our guest speaker in our Intro to PR course of fall semester 2015. Summer of 2016 I was interested in attaining experience in the real world of PR, so I had originally conversed with former Senior Publicist, Kelsey of Allied’s Hispanic division because I was very intrigued and knew I always wanted to have a profession where I could utilize my bilingual expertise. I emailed her my resume and later received an interview request with Tonya. It ended up being a group interview, which ended up going well for me because I answered every question she asked the group.…

In this short experience so far I know that I’m not going to be in the sports media since I’m not the greatest writer and I don’t want to sports commentary. Video #2: Intake Interview For the purposes of this assignment, I decided to do a mock interview with someone from class, whom I was already comfortable with. What I found in recording the intake interview was that it was a lot different than previous counseling sessions that we had practiced before. I was surprised because rather than making it easier by having specific questions to ask, I feel like I struggled with having to obtain answers to all of the questions on the PASE sheet. As can be seen in the video, I skipped around quite a bit when going through the intake with my client. While it didn’t go as smoothly as I would have liked, having this experience and watching over the video will help me in the future when I conduct these kind of interviews.…

Mock Interview Reflection The mock interview was closely related to the topics covered in the readings and in class. Getting practice using the techniques we have been learning in real time, with a real person, made the content more concrete. I was conscious of employing solution focused techniques as much as possible in the short time we had to conduct the interview. While my performance produced mixed results, the practice was a good start to becoming an expert using the technique. Strengths and Effectiveness When reflecting on my performance, I was able to express to the client I was fully engaged in our conversation by intentionally implementing a variety of reflection strategies.…

In addition, it will increase my confidence and leadership skills, which will serve as valuable tools for future employment and beyond. My ideal internship experience would involve working in a role where I am surrounded by people who encourage each other in a supportive environment where everyone has a unique contribution to the team. I would love to work in an environmental health field or in epidemiology where I can work behind the scenes to improve public health, as well as working directly with the public. It would be ideal to be able to constantly challenge myself, and be involved in multiple roles. It would also include having the freedom to work independently, as well as collaborating with…
