Each year during the fall semester there are multiple opportunities for students to apply to work for or interview with the company of their dreams. There is serious preparation involved in the process to appear as a perfect candidate for a desired company. Starting from my freshman year at Michigan State, I have taken various steps to prepare myself for the career fair. During my freshmen year I was required to attend the career fair for a grade, thus resulting in an early start to my career fair preparation process. When preparing for the career fair, I begin with the essential step of researching the companies that I will meet with, which companies I would like to interview with, and where in the Breslin Center my desired company booths will be located. …show more content…
In order to improve my process for a better chance of internship, I scour the company website and look for the overall business and marketing strategy and the goal objectives of the company. Following the company research, I generally touch up my resume before the fair by adding on the additional activities and jobs I have been involved with since the last career fair. Since my freshmen year I have added jobs, a study abroad program and an internship to my resume. After my various researching and my resume reviewing is finished, I create a general speech that I can pitch to almost every company I plan to meet with and I also rehearse it a few times to myself or roommates to make sure it is a solid introduction for myself. Lastly, I find something that is business-oriented and professional to wear to the career

Prior to the UNI Career Fair, I did some research on the University website to try to figure out which booths I was interested in visiting. The Lutheran Services in Iowa booth wasn’t one that was particularly on my list. This company is a non-profit organization that helps people who are struggling to parent children with behavioral or mental health issues. I wasn’t exactly sure what Lutheran Services In Iowa was all about until I walked past their station, and saw words on a poster saying “help children” and “family focus”.…

During POC #1, I learned through the Focus 2 Career Assessment that I am almost ready to become a nurse. In order for me to become a nurse, I need to become a more social person, either that or fake it! By taking the Focus 2 Carer Assessment, I easily learned a valuable lesson about becoming a nurse, and how I should take my personality into consideration while becoming a nurse. Because I am determined to become a nurse, I am willing to become a more social person; but if I were not willing to become more social, Focus 2 claimed that I would excel quite well in many different types of jobs.…

As a junior at Northville High School, I am already discovering my passion for business through my participation and leadership roles in organizations such as DECA. I have obtained not only extensive marketing and general business knowledge through self-studying for competitive tests, but also practical communication, presentation, and sales skills while representing various business professionals in judged roleplay scenarios. I have placed at the district, state, and international level in my events, and this year I will have competed at the International Career Development Conference for my third year. These experiences give me a good foundation of understanding business concepts, and I plan to learn more about how businesses operate in the global market through the Business is Global program at the Kelley School of Business.…

The UC Davis ARC welcomed me with a very long line to get in, but this did not discourage me. If anything, this made my expectations higher, as I thought, “this must be really great fair, since people are dressed up in suits, standing in line for 15minutes”. After entering the building, first I got overwhelmed by the great variety of companies actually participating in this event. Then, unfortunately, I noticed that most of the companies were looking for either computer engineers or mechanical engineers. There was really nothing there for psychology and/or communication major student.…

These skills and abilities will be important in the future, especially in college and in my career as a C.E.O., because they will personally improve myself and how I problem-solve situations. Resilience will be necessary to my future because I will need to continue working hard when I am struggling. For the informational interview I contacted a family friend Rebecca Gray Detling who is an executive sales manager with ICH Global LLC. I first just started off asking Rebecca on what she majored in college, how it prepared her for her job, what courses were the most valuable, and what class she wished she would have taken while in school. While in college Rebecca majored in physical therapy and had a minor in finance because she knew she wanted a future in the business field while helping out people in the medical field. Once out of college though she said that the most valuable class she took was a little of every class because with a career in the medical field, sales, and finance not one class is better than the other but a little of each class was extremely valuable.…
