What career are you going for? What do you want to do with the rest of your life? Are you getting asked this a lot? After graduating High School, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I did have some ideas of what I was interested in. People are always telling me that you should know what you want to do, but to be honest I am 18 years’ old, and just entered the adult world. My advisor told me about this class called career exploration, which is a class that goes through all the different careers and see what your interests are. Entering in the class I didn’t know what to expect. One goal that I want to get out of this class is to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life and be happy.

My advisor always has great feedback and answers my questions however best he can. When I went to talk with my advisor two weeks ago I asked him what classes are like with both Applied Social Science and Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management. For example, I was considered on whether there would be a lot of math involved with either major and for hospitality major it was just basic math. It was great to hear that it would be easy except for the other major it would be more challenging. Than one of the ladies from the advisement center came in and talked to me and my advisor. She gave me a study abroad opportunity to with any major that I would be interested in. Semester at Sea is something she did. It’s a program where you’re at sea for 100 days and you visit all the different countries and you take classes on the ship. Something I have always wanted to do in life is work on a cruise ship and travel. I have been on two cruise ships in my life and honestly can say that I enjoy it every time. In relation to my academic and professional plan, she pulled up a document on her computer and started to fill out what general education and universal tracking courses I have already completed. Then, she started to ask me what classes I would be interested in registering for my spring 2016 semester and when I was planning on taking my summer semester. Subsequently, I informed her that I would like to take an additional summer semester during the 2016 summer C semester since I would still be in Gainesville due to my leasing contract. Also, I informed her that I would like to wrap up my general educational courses and begin my universal tracking courses in the upcoming spring semester. She advised me on what classes would be the easiest to take, such as CGS2531 over ISM3013, and how I can fill both my writing requirement and a universal tracking course with one class, GEB3213.…

At the beginning of the semester I was somewhat intimated by the amount of course work that was expected of each student in this class. However, as time went on and I started to complete the assignments, it became clear how useful many of them were, particularly the resume and the career exploration paper. Both of these assignments were beneficial in their own way, despite the time and effort that went in to completing them according to the instructions. The resume and subsequent critiques from multiple sources yielded a professional document that is flawless and ready to be disseminated to potential employers after a minor customization to it based upon the job description and requirements. The career exploration assignment has taught me how…

For many people which career they want to attend college to work towards comes pretty naturally like teaching has always been their passion or they’ve always loved the feeling of being in a kitchen. For me however what I wanted to do as a career and attend college for didn’t come as naturally. I explored many ideas like becoming a chef. But I soon found out that I could burn water and therefore cooking wasn’t exactly my strong suit. As a high schooler, the question, “What are you going to do when you graduate.” seemed like the most difficult question to answer. I knew that in order to find satisfaction in any career, I had to do something that I had a passion for as well as something that mattered and had a purpose, but actually identifying what that was felt impossible until my junior year of high school. The first day of class that year was the same boring school day I had come to know until the last period of the day, Biology 2. As soon as the bell rang the teacher began handing out the textbook for the course, which was essentially an anatomy and physiology textbook.…
