Although this was the first year for the College & Career Exploration class, and we were the guinea pigs, I learned a lot about my future. I have grown so much in learning what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, and how to plan for it to make the best decisions. We used Career Cruising, which helped me find out which career is best for me, went to a college fair and visited Grand Valley, which helped me learn more about colleges and determine what my top three choices are, and we did research to find out how to live on our own, and the costs of different expenses. This class has caused me to become more aware of what to expect in the next few years of my life, and I now feel more prepared for what is to come. Before this class, I always …show more content…
Becoming a Dental Hygienist seemed like a really good option. My aunt is a Dental Hygienist, and she loves her job, so I feel that I would too. Career Cruising gave me an in depth look at what people in this career do on a daily basis, how much they get paid, what their main duties are, and so much more. Once I saw how much they get paid, I realized that it was a sufficient amount to live off of. I liked the hours, because they work in the mornings and early afternoons, so I would get to be home with my family for the rest of the night. After reading this information and doing research on other websites, it has led me to the conclusion that I want to become a Dental Hygienist. There are a few colleges with a Dental Hygiene program, and many with …show more content…
Ferris has an actual Dental Hygiene program, and the other two have Pre-Dental. After comparing tuition, and other factors of each school, these are the three best options for me and my future career. The tour of Grand Valley was my third college tour that I have gone on. In eighth grade, our careers class toured MSU. It was a really big campus. I did not like that. I felt like I would get lost, or be late to classes because of how far I had to go. I would also like smaller classes to get more one on one help, and with such a big school like that with so many people, I do not see how that would be possible. Last year, I went on the trip to a different college fair and a tour of Aquinas. Aquinas was really small, which is what I want, and it was really pretty with all of the old buildings. To me, the best out of the three was Grand Valley. I really liked it, and I feel that in the end, Grand Valley will be the best option for me. They have really nice dorms, lots of places to get help with classes, and overall just had a really nice

At the beginning of the semester I was somewhat intimated by the amount of course work that was expected of each student in this class. However, as time went on and I started to complete the assignments, it became clear how useful many of them were, particularly the resume and the career exploration paper. Both of these assignments were beneficial in their own way, despite the time and effort that went in to completing them according to the instructions. The resume and subsequent critiques from multiple sources yielded a professional document that is flawless and ready to be disseminated to potential employers after a minor customization to it based upon the job description and requirements. The career exploration assignment has taught me how…

I first attended Appalachian about 15 years ago, entering in the class of 2000. Due to personal and family events, I wasn't able to graduate, so I am getting my second chance now, at both a degree and and the valuable experiences that being involved with the community and networking with others can bring. The one thing I did learn from my previous collge experience, both at Appalachain and at the community college I currently attend, is how much value comes from the colege experience outside of class - connecting with others who have different life experiences, and learning and doing things together to improve ourselves and the community. Since I intend to major in Communications/Journalism, I am looking forward to getting involved with student…

I decided that the best way to continue my endeavor, was to start by choosing Dental Hygiene as my elective course. I chose Dental Hygiene primarily because I am very particular when it comes to personal hygiene. This choice derived primarily from a personal preference of the comfort of being a patient getting their teeth cleaned. I took joy in the feeling of clean, polished teeth. Throughout my Dental Hygiene course, I was enlightened by the fact that I was also comfortable from the perspective of playing the role as a Dental Hygienist.…

If given the choice, I would attend Brigham Young University-Hawaii. My reasons for wanting to attend BYUH are plentiful; it has a very rich culture, small class sizes allowing relationships with professors and classmates, and obviously the most beautiful, welcoming environment. Although, those reasons are enough to make anyone want to go, the main reason I aspire to attend BYU Hawaii, is for their marine biology program. Since my youth, I have had a passion for animals and learning as much as I can about them. I am especially partial towards ocean life, because our oceans suffer greatly from pollution and I would like to try to help preserve it.…
