Listening along with communicating, empathy, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and time management, are all qualities an individual should possess fulfilling the social worker profession. In addition to these basic qualities, a bachelor’s degree in social work is required for most entry level positions. A bachelor’s degree in social work prepares students for direct service positions. The program teaches students about diverse populations, human behavior, social welfare policy, and ethics. The program also gives students a hand on experience in the field by requiring students to complete a supervised practicum or internship prior to graduation. Some social work professions require a master’s degree in social work, such as clinical social workers. The demand for social workers will increase due to how corrupt our world becomes each and every day. The demand for child and family social workers will be needed to work with families to strengthen parenting skills, prevent child abuse, and identify alternative homes for children. Social workers demanded in schools will increase due to rising student enrollments. Healthcare social workers will continue to be needed to help the aging population and their families adjust to their new treatments, medications, and lifestyles. The demand for social workers and the growth and change of our world has a positive correlation. As long as the world continues to grow, the demand for social workers will increase. Social work is typically a full time occupation. The field might require additional hours such as evenings, weekend ends, or even holidays. The median compensation for this field in 2014 was $45,000. If hired by one of the top industries such as hospitals, state, local government, or private industries, you can expect an addition $10,000.
