Career Development Plan Part II-Development of a Training and Mentoring Program
The purpose of an effective training and mentoring program is to provide the participants with knowledge and skills designed for learning and growth opportunities. Tradition training covers the basic work related skills needed to perform a task. However, new training and mentoring programs needed to drive change throughout the workplace will involve the need to enable learning and person development of people as individuals. Organizations that provide opportunities for learning and growth have a distinct advantage when competing for talented employees. Performance standards should identify the skills needed to problem-solve, reason, and communicate with internal and external customers. Performance standards will be satisfactory when tasks are completed within 4 hours of being received without requiring follow up, the employee is able to maintain high levels of talent demonstrated by displaying superior interpersonal skill at all time especially when communicating with internal and external customers, information given to internal and external customers pertaining to work orders are accurate and complete, the employee consults with supervisor when priorities and deadlines conflict, and customer complaints do not exceed 2 per year.
The delivery method will be through information presentation techniques which includes information lectures, conferences, correspondence courses, and interactive multimedia and simulation method which includes role playing, behavior modeling, interactive simulation and business simulations. Assisting in the presentation of the information are human resources, supervisors, and managers who will act as mentors. The participants in the program and the mentors will meet every Monday morning from 7 AM to 12 Noon in the training room for 12 weeks. The mentors will provide key behavioral and development concepts, practical skills, and interactive exercises and assessments, and practice sessions to facilitate learning activities for personal development.
