The poem ‘A summer day’, by Mary Oliver asks the question “What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”. The UCF College of Business is filled with so many opportunities, I try to take advantage of all that I can while it is available. One of those opportunities is the chance to attend career fairs, another is having career services. Since transferring to UCF from Valencia I had heard about students attending career fairs and landing jobs just by networking and handing out resumes. I thought that was far-fetched, that potentially someone could obtain the employer contacts and stay in communication with them until an interview came of it. You could easily say I had little faith in my own self, even knowing I had developed a great resume with all my resources, and …show more content…
One of the objectives on my career action plan was to secure an internship. At the event, I networked with a recruiter from Springleaf Financial, gave them my resume, the next day I received a phone call for an interview. I interviewed with the branch manager, then district manager. All that in mind, I now have an internship set up at Springleaf as a personal loan specialist. Nevertheless this experience goes to show how using the resources UCF provides can be valuable towards career endeavors. I have always set goals and time frames for achieving them, but never in writing or long term. The career action plan for me involves developing a resume, review job postings, develop professional network, and securing an internship. Having a complete career action plan doesn’t happen overnight, it can take months to years depending on goals, it envelops the potential to what will I do. Developing and perfecting my resume was the first objective I set on my career action plan. That task is and will continue to be a work in progress for a while as I gain experience and continue my education, but getting it critiqued my multiple different people can make it the best it can be in

I first started looking for a summer internship during the spring 2015 school semester. I used various outlets and applied to many jobs in Long Island, NY and in Albany, NY. I found that using career websites, such as CareerSaint or Indeed.com, did not result in me finding much because I would send out my resume, and not really know who my resume went to so I could not follow up with the company if I wanted to. So, I started researching online, mainly using search engines such as Google.com, companies that I thought would be a good fit for me. My major is Actuarial Science, however I am still looking at working in different areas in business in order to find something that I really enjoy doing and can see myself doing as a career for the rest of my life.…

Standing outside the Pittsburgh Penguins locker room after Game 5 of the Stanley Finals against the Nashville Predators I had never been more excited of the career path I chose. The adrenaline and anticipation as we wait for the locker room to open up for interviews only makes me more excited as I know I will be the only woman with a camera pushing and shoving for that perfect shot. Getting to see my favorite team get to the Stanley Cup Finals and being able to film every step along the way is a moment I will always remember and being able to be a part of history as the Penguins clench the series and win back to back cups. The parade that followed was unreal as all of Pittsburgh turned out for the team and there I was filming every moment. These two moments are only a few that have made me want to work in the sports industry as a cinematographer, editor, or producer.…

I met with many employers and practiced forming connections. But the main two, Charter Manufacturing and Kapco, Inc. were ones that caught my attention. They seemed very informative and encouraging. I introduced myself as a freshman, pre-buisness marketing major hoping to make my way back home to Hawaii and that was enough for them to get excited, helping me to find internships. Many of them though, were for Juniors and Seniors which reassured me that I was among older business majors and ahead of other freshman.…

Rachel A. Hicks April 8,2017 Poetry Essay: Mary Oliver When one writes poetry they tend to write on subjects they feel strongly about and they turn those feelings into something beautiful. Mary Oliver uses the theme of nature in most, if not all, of her work to symbolize her passion for the outside, her overall questions and feelings about life itself. Mary Oliver went to two separate colleges yet never got a degree, she was very infatuated with poet Edna St. Vincent Millay growing up. She then found love and moved to a place called Provincetown, which is where she pulled a lot of nature's beauty from after claiming to fall in love with that place and it's amazing surroundings. She's always had a thing for nature and which is why she uses it to symbolize different concepts of life in her poems.…

The poem High Summer by John Hodgen critiques the affect prominent poets have on the thinking of future generation and examines the validity of these critiques made on the subjects they write about. In this poem, John Hodgen describes, in a plain spoken and blunt way, Walt Whitman helping wounded Civil War veterans in a makeshift military hospital. He uses candid comparisons to prove his points and alliteration to improve the readability of his poem at the end. In order to understand poems, the reader must have a historical and cultural understanding of the subject manner.…

    b) I think the creation of a timeline would be difficult for me as I am impatient and often want to achieve the end result quicker than realistically possible. I could possibly become distracted or stray away from my goal if it’s too far in the future; which will only prolong me achieving my goals. In order to ensure that this does not happen, I would create a constant reminder of the end goal. For example, if I want to lose weight and get a six pack or a strong core, I could put a photo of a girl with the body I strive towards as the wallpaper on my phone. Another step I’ll take to ensure I stick to the timeline aspect is to set lots of short term goals that collectively result in the long term…

Throughout the Romantic Era, literature, particularly poetry, began to encaptivate the sublime within nature and poets were drawn to vivid and imaginative descriptions of the natural world. Following this period of innovation, Emily Dickinson arose and through a distinctive meter and form, took continued to integrate ideas of nature into poetry. Dickinson took a more realist approach and wrote with a unique individuality which while unpopular at the time, now stands as some of America’s most celebrated poetry. Mary Oliver, a renowned contemporary poet weaves similar themes of love, hope, immortality, and religion with flora and fauna imagery through minimalistic, free-verse poetry. Her free-verses largely resemble Dickinson’s brief yet moving…

'To Autumn ' consists of three eleven-line stanzas, each containing the sights, smells and sounds of an Autumn scene. Each stanza has a different subject matter, following a chronological sequence. The poem is written in rather strict iambic pentameter, with only four lines in the poem breaking this structure. There are generally five iambs to each line. This methodical meter is effective as it gives the poem a lyrical, relaxed tone.…
