The Effects of Exercise Performed Four or More Times a Week on the Cardiovascular System

Introduction

Cardiovascular strength greatly correlates with the amount and duration of the exercise that a person performs and can vary depending on the person. Cardiovascular strength is defined to be the ability for the body to send oxygen rich blood throughout the body during physical activities or exercise (Morgan and Carter 10).

Cardiovascular fitness or fitness index was created to measure the person's ability to maintain health through exercise (Morgan Carter 10). Due to the increasing rates of obesity and diseases correlated with sedentary lives that derive from to jobs in offices where people are often seated six to seven or even eight

The pulse of both test subjects was taken before the step test was conducted. Each test subject was asked to step up and down one step on a staircase by raising one foot at a time onto the step. The speed of the steps was controlled by using a digital metronome set to 120 bpm beats. The test subjects completed the step test for 3 minutes using a stopwatch and the pulse of both test subjects was recorded one minute after the step test was completed, and two minutes after and lastly three minutes after. However the experiment can be flawed due to the unknown factors such as the sleep patterns of the individuals performing the step test. Other factor that can cause errors in the data collected is the consumption of caffeine before the experiment, exercise performed before experiment, health and family history, time the subject had last meal, and possible talking during the test can cause error because it can increase heart rate during physical activity. To prevent possible error in future studies, the experiment should be recreated by assigning guidelines before the test subjects perform the step test. These guidelines include performing no exercise before step test. The test subjects should have a total of eight hours of sleep and a small meal consisting of the same things. Medical history should be recorded as well the sex and age of the test
