Once we were all dressed up and ready to go we headed towards my aunts house. Once we got there and opened my aunt's front door you could feel your nose get filled up with all sorts of tasty food, the smell of whatever was in there was amazing. When we went in and settled down we waited for the rest to arrive. After a couple hours everyone…
I personally think the food was the highlight of this trip. It was delicious and healthy. It really stuck to the…
Many historians believe that the start of many Western societies began with the Greeks. They Greeks have made many contributions to make their lives easier and these advances have also helped shape Western civilizations. The Greeks have spent their lives making contributions in many areas such as math, philosophy, and government. Many of the concepts in math that students learn in school is based on contributions made by Greek mathematicians.…
The festivals Spanish countries and Latin American countries celebrate are really something - we had adequate time to prepare for the festivals, and the festivals were appealing to discover. The tomato festival,…
I enjoyed this visit because I love learning about the lifestyles of other cultures. I also like to learn about other religions and how they compare to Christianity. It was an amazing experience, and I know that I will do it again next year just for fun. I had an awesome time hanging out with my friends and family while learning new things. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the festival, and my favorite part was the jewelry.…
I. Introduction An extremely popular topic in the media today is Greek Life at college campuses. Almost every college across the United States has at least a few fraternities or sororities that end up in the news in some shape or form. Most of the time, the reason they receive attention is due to someone dying at a house, a girl being raped by a brother, or it’s revealed that a fraternity or sorority has been hazing their pledges.…
Lehigh faces a conformity problem as I imagine most universities do. People try so hard to fit in that they do not mind if they lose their identities in the process. Greek life is possibly the biggest source of this problem. It offers many beneficial aspects to society, while also offering detrimental experiences to students. Throughout all the schools that I visited and the stories that I have heard, there is no university with a more dominating Greek life presence than Lehigh.…
Background of The Greek Civil War The Greek Civil war may have been the most uneventful war in Greece history but it was very much the bloodiest. The war was a two-stage process from 1943-1949, in mostly northern Greece. The main reason for fighting was that the communist party of Greece (the KKE) wanted to spread communism into Greece. The Greek Government and anti-communist groups, however, were very against this idea and wanted to preserve the country from communism. The Greek Government wanted to stay as a democratic country and after seeing what happened to Germany in World War 2 they wanted to stay far away from communism.…
My expectations before participating in this activity was for it to not be as authentic as it was. I did not realize that there was a place downtown that had such real and good food and wondered why I haven’t heard of this place before. Also, I was surprised with the poverty I saw around the area. I have always grown up in areas that have a decent amount of money and have never been to a spanish speaking country or area before. This experience really opened my eyes to the fact that there are places out there that still have authenticity and still try to resist becoming “Americanized” in society.…
The minute I stepped foot on the University of Alabama campus I was welcomed by the 40,000 square foot sorority mansions and I knew I was not in Chicago anymore. Based on the sheer size of the organizations, I could already spot the difference between Greek life in the South and Greek life in the North. Southern Greek organizations are larger, more formal, and more financially prosperous than they are in the North. I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into when I joined Sorority life at Alabama.…
Greek life on college campuses is an effective way to ensure that students get the most out of college, and all that it has to offer. Greek organizations actively challenge students to be a well educated, and active part of the surrounding community. However, some view fraternities and sororities on college campuses in more of a negative light due to stereotypes and generalizations, influenced by the media. Many of these stereotypes are untrue, and often over exaggerated. Greek life has many advantages to offer, and outweigh many of the misguided arguments of the opposition.…
I tried foods from different cultures and enjoyed activities on…
Not only do you build friendships that will last a lifetime, but you build leadership and networking skills that will better your future. The group of people you meet through Greek life may be the same people that help you with your future career. They may be able to write recommendation letters, or they even may know someone that knows someone. The best part of all this is that everything is done with fun. You grow as a person through your experiences, and with Greek life, there is never a dull…

Greek theater evolved from festivals that honoured the Gods, and myths that the citizens were familiar with. Tragedy was adapted from folk hymns which were dedicated to the God of wine, Dionysus. These folk hymns were known as Dithyrambs and were performed in festivals to celebrate and respect the God (Gerber 13). Since theater was performed for the most sacred and honourable purposes it was treated with high esteem. Attending the theater was a civic duty and the people were paid to see performances (Zelenak 5).…
