1. What does the PR interval on the ECG represent? What is the normal value? The P-R interval is the interval between the beginning of electrical excitation of the atria and the beginning of excitation of the ventricles and its normal value is 0.12- 0.20 seconds.…
Introduction The purpose of this lab was to determine the rate, function, and integrity of the heart during an exercise EKG. An electrocardiogram measures the electrical activity of the heart over time. In this lab a subject will exercise for about 15 minutes, not including rest times and the EKG will measure the heart’s activity.…
The mitochondrion is an organelle which produces ATP or energy for all cells. The ATP produced by the mitochondria can be used to measure certain physical activities of fruit flies. In this experiment the development, climbing, flight, and in vitro activity of Drosophilia Melanogaster flies were tested. Three different strands of flies were used. One strand was the wild-type (wt) fly, which had normal mitochondria without any mutations.…
Simulation is an excellent tool that may be utilized to allow nurses to experience a situation in a safe learning environment, while concurrently performing a critical skill without fear of injuring a patient. The organization is currently utilizing HeartCode simulation for Advanced Cardiac Life Support training. This system simulates real life cardiac arrest utilizing an interactive television monitor in addition to a mannequin. The HeartCode program allows a student to practice codes employing the mannequin without fear of harming a real patient. The organization has found that staff who have utilized the HeartCode program are much more comfortable when they encounter a real code.…
Introduction The purpose of the lab was to see the effects of heart rate and blood pressure when 3 male and 3 female students exercised compared to when they were at rest. My hypothesis is that the data from the exercise part of the experiment will cause both the heart rate and blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) to increase more than the resting state.…
*TTH = Tell-Tale Heart The definition of the insane is “Not sane; not sound of mind; mentally deranged (dictionary.com)” The narrator of The Tell-Tale Heart is insane.…
The new cardiovascular lab will retain the simple ID and labeling components, but will be expanded to include portions that encourage kinesthetic learners. In the new structure, students will visit a series of stations that illustrate the structures and functions of the heart after completing the book objectives. The first station will be a toy model of the heart that can be taken apart to see the internal components, and an actual heart. This station appeals to the visual and kinesthetic learners because they are seeing and touching the heart. Here the students can compare different internal and external structures prior to answering a series of questions describing the relationship of various structures to each other.…
In Mrs. Crew’s class we are reading a novel called “The Tell-Tale Heart”. Several parents and peers etc…say it is not no respectable book for our age range, but to me it is a remarkable text, filled with tons of info on how to define the horror genre. In my essay I will try and convince the several parents and peers that say it is not a respectable book for our age group, that it is a highly regarded book for our age range. First reason you should read the text is it’ll increase your imagination, so that your mind won’t be stuck on foolishness like social media, video games, or anything else that kids in our age range are addicted to. It’ll also keep your mind out of the “gutter”.…
As a Speech-Language-Hearing major, I have had a combination of experiences that have prepared me to enter West Chester University’s graduate program in Communication Sciences and Disorders. I have always known that I wanted to be part of a profession that serves the public. My mother is a social worker and my father is a public health administrator, which means serving others is in my blood. Growing up watching my parents’ commitment to the well-being of others inspired this commitment in me. I chose this major and career path based on my personal values and family background.…
Through the first three chapters of Soldier’s Heart, Charley does not believe that war could possibly be horrifying. He thinks war is just pretty girls giving him handkerchiefs and sweets. He even thinks that the war will be over by Christmas. When he enters his first battle and experiences the blood and gore firsthand, he learns that war is not romantic. I think the biggest horror of war for Charley is learning that there are horrors of war, and that is a shocking and eye-opening realization.…
The Cardiovascular System: An Overview of Blood, Vessels, and Heart – Healthy to Diseased The cardiovascular system, also known as the circulatory system, consists of the heart, blood, and blood vessels (Mertz, 2004). The cardiovascular system moves oxygenated blood and nutrients through to and removes carbon dioxide and wastes out of the body’s cells. (Miracle of the Human Body, 2010) I will provide an overview how a healthy cardiovascular system does this by first discussing the anatomy of it, in a healthy state, and then the physiology of it, also in a healthy state, this will include how the pulmonary and systemic circuits work.…
This is where electrodes are placed are a participants scalp and electrical activity is measured over time. A participant’s response to stimuli can be measured through the scalp electrodes recording their event-related potentials, if fluctuations in activity occur, a positive or negative electrical charge can be observed. It has been shown in recent accounts that short-term retention may be sustained by this increased neural activity (Curtis & D’Esposito, 2003). In a previous study an EEG was implemented to see if there is a delay period in neural activity when participants were asked to recall things in their immediate attention or in their delayed attention (LaRocque & Lewis-Peacock). It was found through an EEG, that there was elevated neuronal activity for items in participant’s immediate attention, and decreased neuronal activity for items outside of participant’s…
He is not a reliable narrator because he is emotionally unstable. Poe heightens the tension and fear running through the mind of the narrator. There is a clear connection between the language used by the narrator and his psychological state. The narrator switches between calm, logical statements and quick, irrational outbursts. Poe effectively conveys panic in the narrator’s voice, and the reader senses uneasiness and growing tension in the story.…
In this assignment I will be explaining the physiology of two body systems, the cardiovascular system and the respiratory system in the relation to energy metabolism in the body. Energy metabolism is where energy is generated from nutrients and delivered to the organs around the body. Energy is needed in the body in order muscular movement, circulation of the blood, lymph and tissue fluid, breathing process, cell growth and repair, the transition of nerve impulses and for the building of different complex molecules. The cardiovascular system There are four major functions of the cardiovascular system, these include: the transportation of nutrients, gases and waste products around the body, the protection of the body from infections and blood…
Imagine being hated because of your disabilities. Then when you go out into public everyone stares at it. The narrator in “The Tell Tale Heart” is sane not insane because. First, the narrator stalked the man using very good strategy. At midnight every night the narrator would go into the old man’s bedroom and shine the light directly at the “evil eye.”…
