Car Seat Safety

Newborns or children under a year old should be placed in infant-only/rear-facing car seats for their safety. Special handles on these seats enable a carrier to be removed independently from the car allowing parents the ability to move their children without having to take them out of their car seat. Therefore, ease of installation and removal should be high on list of requirements.

Children transitioning from infant to toddler height and weight can be moved to convertible car seats. This just means the car seat can be rear-facing (safest position for a child) or forward-facing. Allowed weight ranges anywhere from 20-65 pounds. This is a good seat for parents with multiple children as they can be passed down.

Older children can still require car seats, especially if the seat belt in your vehicle does not securely fit your child. These seats are good for traveling an good for cars without a head rest or high seat back.

There are usually two options of installation, long belt/short belt so make sure your car seat is equipped to do both if necessary.
