While my dad was driving to his work, he pulled over and had lunch. When he went back on the road he hit a patch of black ice and spun into the ditch. For him, it would’ve been impossible to call an ambulance or a tow truck because he was knocked out, but was alerted several minutes after. Still in no condition to call someone. The next morning to afternoon we went down to the hospital. If the hospital wouldn’t have called us,my mom would’ve had no idea that he had a crash. He finally “recovered”, well enough to go home. I was different at home, for the rest of my life but that still didn’t mean we didn’t have fun. He just couldn’t do as much as he used to.
The car crash still affects him today. About a year ago my dad was diagnosed, by his doctor, that he had pseudogout. This is a condition in which calcium crystals deposit in the joints, potentially causes severe pain. There is a shot or a treatment that he goes to the hospital for whenever he feels this pain but, it doesn’t cure it. However it does get rid of the crystals for quite a period of time.
What happens is, his leg gets sore for about two days. Then its gets worse till a point that he can't walk and so we have to put him in his office chair and roll him to the car and this can get really really painful. Finally its about eleven o’clock p.m. and were sitting in the ER for the shot. Most of the time he stays over night in the ER and we go home. All of the ER visits are pretty expensive around five hundred to one thousand dollars. That’s why we try and transport him to the hospital ourselves because ambulance services are very
