Approach: Analyzed the question, we added one more clerk in step 2 (process and record payment). Then use the formula as question 1 and 2 to calculate.
Figure 3.1 Solution: When add the second clerk in step 2, then solve and record payments. We could see the above pictures, 2 clerks in step 2 will be worked together in the same station. However, they also need to divide the time. Because we added one more clerk in step 2, one clerk needs 15 seconds per application. Therefore, the bottleneck for the license-renewal operation is step 3 and step 3 needs 60 seconds. Finally, we could get the formula: capacity per hour =3600 seconds per hour divided 60 seconds per application= 60 …show more content…
As said, process layout is used in improving the efficiency of the equipment. Process layouts could minimize the time and cost in travel distances of trips. In this case, Henry who is the manager of the company needs to consider the cost and enhances the efficiency. So he could use layout strategy to help him get the goal. Based on this case study, we have given some recommendations. We suggest that Henry could add one more operator for step 3 and step 4 to finish the task, which could save more time and shrink the cost. Henry also could use the computer to exam the layout process which one is best for the firm. According to this case study, we realize the processing of designing and making process layout. The advantages of process layout are greater flexibility, decrease cost, incentives for workers and so forth. However, it is difficult to control in operation. Moreover, Henry could use process layout to increase the workers effectively and efficiency such as in this
