Short Term 12 was a very interesting movie. It had hints of being realistic, but with aspects where you knew it was a movie. It’s about a group of workers who work in a foster care residential facility setting. The main character, Grace, deals with her own personal struggles while she supervises the children at the facility. I have a short bit of experience at a facility like Short Term 12 in some aspects; I can see where parts of the movie are realistic and where are some are an exaggeration because it is a movie.…

In addition to LIM and LSM assessments, I would use a standard assessment tool and observation. I would use a standard assessment tool because it can provide me with baseline functioning information on the client. The standard assessment tool holds the highest levels of reliability and validity, which is why I feel using at least one in my client’s assessment, would be important. The standard assessment tool can indicate any severe medical issues or medications that require attention to. The standard tool will further define any loss or deviations in functioning more clearly to help guide the TRS judgments of what interventions will work best for the client.…

Aly Daniels Journal #1 Thoughts from the Week: The week seemed to take forever, once I entered the classroom. However, the favorite part of my day is the end of math, right before I leave for the day. This is my favorite part of practicum because it is a time when I actually get to work with, help, and interact with the students. This week was especially amazing because I helped a student who normally becomes frustrated during math.…

The first skill that was used to engage my client was using an open ended question at the beginning of my interview. According to Hohman (2002), “open-ended questions are those that have a variety of possible answers and do not limit the client” (p.20) using this strategy allows the client to explore his own thoughts and it encourages the client to do most of the talking. I started my conversation with my client by asking a simple open question for example “how was his day going ?” later I saw myself asking deeper questions such as “You mention that your brother is an alcoholic, how is your relationship with your brother?” this allowed me to listen to my client story in his own words and to keep the interviewing flowing.…

Capstone class has challenged my communication, writing, and presentation skills. These skills I have improved on and found my voice in doing presentation. Working in a group has thought me on how to communicate with difficult people especially when everyone has their own opinion. For this assignment, I had to come up with a way to not only feed myself, but also feed my nine-year old child for one week while budgeting on only $70 dollars. , because of that obstacle of staying within a seventy dollar budget, and also because, I had to come up with different strategies for preparing meals to feed me and my child throughout the week had made this assignment challenging and difficult for me to complete. For instance, one reason why this assignment was difficult was due to the fact that I was on a budget. , meaning that I could not over spend, I had to stay within my means, hence, for instance, there were certain items that were to expense and was not worth the risk of going over the budget. For example, a bag of chicken…

Vision is my inspiration. I wanted to understand how vision affects perspective and allows for every person to be unique, to mold their own personality, and to have an individual outlook on life. It is what led me to pursue optometry. The more I learned about optometry the more I came to appreciate the profession and its goal in improving patients’ vision. Now, most people take this to mean that an optometrists sole job is prescribing eyeglasses and contact lenses.…
