When I escaped I had to make the hardest decision of my life to leave my baby girl, Bettie Elenor, behind with the otter girl. I know she would not have survived the journey and leaving her was the only way to insure her safety. I only hope the Otter Girl adopted her as I anticipated. One of the hardest parts of the journey is the hunger. We never know if we will have a chance to eat again. During our escape we came across a corn field, which provided us with food for many days. The only meat we have eaten is a bullfrog I killed with a spear. We also had a fantastic streak of luck when we discovered a horse. The horse had a bell attached to it which ghetel would not let me dispose of. However, the horse was killed as we forded the river, on a bridge made of driftwood. The horse broke through and was impaled by a stick wounding it to greatly to go on. We went along when ghetel against my advice decided to return to retrieve meat from the dead horse. She could not find the dead horse and I had to go find her. I know we still have far to go but we are getting closer to home
