The task of a leader is not to create followers, but to create more leaders by inspiring others with positive qualities. A leader’s task goes far beyond commanding others, they must lead by example and encouragement. These characteristics of an individual are equally as important as scholarly traits in an academic environment, as they show a student’s true character and dedication. Dedication is what a proper leader must strive for in order to lead by example. In my case, captain of the swim is how I do my part in providing structure and example for not only my school but my community. The everyday dedication and passion I show on the team not only provides me as an individual with opportunities to better myself in what I do, it shows the underclassmen
