Captain Midnite Satire

A hundred years ago in Western Australia there lived a boy called Midnite. He was seventeen and all alone in the world except for five animals - a rather silly cow called Dora, a tall and noble-minded horse called Red Ned, a short-tempered cockatoo called Major, a willing sheepdog called Gyp and a very wise and handsome Siamese cat called Khat. Midnite himself, although nice, was not really very bright and it was Khat who first suggested that he might become a bushranger and call himself Captain Midnite. The author entertained the reader by using humor, curiosity and the twist in the book.

Randolph Stow showed humor in different ways. He said that midnite was very polite and well mannered. So when he started to get angry the only bad word he knows was 'Darn'. It is humorous how he puts his words. For example, on page 86, As a matter of fact, he said:'Darn, darn,darn!' about ninety times. When he was done swearing, he just lay in the grass with his eyes shut. Another thing that is humorous is that Midnite is not smart and in some places in the book it was humorous. For example, on page 46, Midnite was drunk and he was talking all wired and then Khat came in and told him what it meant. Then he asked Khat if cats get drunk too. Randolph Stow uses humor in many different ways.

In the book, curiosity was a very big element and it happens very often. For example, Midnite always gets thrown into prison and the reader would have a curiosity if he would get out or is it how the book ends. The author tries to extend his problem so the reader would be curious will they are reading the
