The Salvation Army is an organization to help the needy and hopeless. Captain Ken Chapman is 53 years old. He’s a fourth generation Salvationist. He knew as a teenager that God called him to be an Officer in The Salvation Army. It took him a long time to respond after serving 10 years as a band and theatre teacher and owning his own business for 20 years (Creative Events International). Normally it takes two years of seminary training, but the Captain did it a little bit different from the rest. He and his wife “Mrs. Captain Jessie Chapman that he’s been married to for 23 years got the name of Captain by doing five years as a lieutenant. Born and raised in Savannah, Ga. He has been volunteering and worked for the organization for 43 years.

If you’re not a people person you will not be successful in the line of work. It always requires you to have a close relationship with God. The Captain states that his career goals are to serve as a Salvation Army Officer until the day I he dies. Just yesterday he was offered a $200,000 a year job with prestige and influence just yesterday. The Captain didn’t even hesitate. Another goal is that he wants to get more training in the subfield of human psychology. He says it’s to enable him to better understand the behaviors of people and what happens in the brains to cause them to continue to make poor choices for their lives. He’s up in the office as early as 7:00am each day. Not even counting the meetings, conferences, and tasks every minute of the day. He works seven days a week, 12-14 hours a day, oversees approximately 120 employees, 13 different operations, and five different facilities. This is all on a $7 million dollar budget. It’s exhausting I would imagine. The Captain doesn’t have time for much of anything else outside of his career expectations, but he does play in the Corps and in the bands, and he says that’s a great release of stress for
