The area of my topic for my Capstone Project is the environment and the United States should stop the production of the North Dakota Access Pipeline. The pipeline is 1,172 miles long and it will transport 470,000 barrels of oil per day. The pipeline will begin in North Dakota, travel through South Dakota, and Iowa, and end in central Illinois. The pipeline will be placed through the Standing Rock Sioux land, which is in North Dakota, and the pipeline would affect their only water supply if the pipeline spills. I chose this area because the media doesn't show what is happening in North Dakota and I want people to be informed about what is going on in our country and stand with Standing Rock to end this battle. This issue is important to me because …show more content…
should stop the construction of the North Dakota Access Pipeline because it would break the hundred-year-old contract made with the Native Americans, it violates the ninth amendment, and cause irreversible damage to the environment. I plan to have quotes in my paper from people in government and some of the Sioux and I also plan to have facts about the pipeline and facts about what’s really happening with the pipeline in North Dakota. I plan to add pictures of a demonstration of how oil can affect the water, sand, and dirt. I plan to talk about different cases where the water supply has been contaminated like the Dan River coal ash and the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. This product will be a challenge for me because I have no idea how to create a website or where to start. Lucky for me my expert in the field knows a little bit about how to create a website. My expert in the field is Dena Reid, she is the Superintendent of the City of Eden Water Filtration Plant. Mrs. Reid has been in the Water Industry for 28 years, and has worked for the City of Eden for the last 26 years. I know that she is the right person for the

Even though there are many reasons to support why Keystone XL pipeline will be a very good idea, there are also many reasons that support that the oppositions gave the reasons why this Keystone XL Pipeline will be a problem to society. A lot of people opposite this idea of building the Keystone XL pipeline, because they consider this pipeline will not create as many jobs as it is promised. “Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Henry Waxman (D-CA) went as far as to argue that pipeline jobs are not "real jobs" - a stance that several labor unions representing millions of American workers might be surprised to hear. After all, organized labor has lined up in support of this pipeline because of the jobs it would provide for union workers” (Energy).…

Perhaps one of the most widely debated topics, in recent years, is the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. The completion of the project has been done in multiple phases and one of the last phases scheduled to be completed is the phase 4 extension. This extension would create a pipeline that would trek, around 2000 miles, from Alberta Canada to the gulf coast of Texas (Friends of the Earth). Since the pipeline would cross international borders, approval from congress would be necessary in order to begin construction (NPR). The two main issue points on the topic are the economic gains that could incur from the development of the pipeline and the overall impression on the environment that would ensue from extraction, transportation, and refining of the oil.…

This last topic I just recently thought of after discussing in class is the different types of laws and regulations on Native Americans in recent years, including the Meriam Report, and how they affected Natives for the better or worse. President Ronald Reagan's Policy towards Indians was summed up as "Less is more" regarding the treatment of Native Americans during his two terms in office. They believed less regulation and government spending was beneficial to Native Americans, even though the cuts in spending and social programs had been benefiting the lives of many Native peoples. For example, these proposed and passed budget cuts hurt the economy and stability of Native Americans in the town of Kickapoo. " Cuts to programs impacting Native Americans hit them as an ethnic minority greater than any other group of…

The topic that my research is on is Segregation. According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of segregation is the practice or policy of keeping people of different races, religions, etc., separate from each other. This has caused a lot of problems throughout history, especially problems within schools. First there was the Plessy vs. Ferguson case in 1896, which ultimately required racial segregation in public schools. The goal was for the schools to be separate but equal.…

According to Natural Resource Defense Council, NADR a New York based natural environment gives a comprehensive account why the move will be disastrous not only to natural environment but also to people (NADR). My topic is over The Oregon Trail, it was a 2,200-mile east-west trail that served as a critical transportation route for emigrants traveling from Missouri to Oregon and other points west during the mid-1800s. Travelers were inspired by dreams of gold and rich farmlands, but they were also motivated by difficult economic times in the east and the diseases like yellow fever and malaria that were decimating the Midwest around 1836. The Oregon Trail began in St. Louis, Missouri, in early spring to begin the four- to six-month trek. This would be the last big city most would visit. Settlers loaded wagons and supplies onto steamships to travel 200 miles upstream on the Missouri River, departing when the river began heading north.…

The topic of my term paper is Domestic Violence among Native Americans on tribal land/reservations. My study question is “What are the causes of domestic violence on reservations. This is significant because it is known that domestic violence is a big issue on reservations and knowing the causes can help to lower domestic violence rates on reservations. Having awareness of the issues of domestic violence and cause may give a better understanding of stereotypes of Native Americans and provide facts on the accuracy of the stereotypes. It is also important because “The National Congress of American Indians declared violence against Native Americans, particularly those living on tribal lands, as the most critical issue faced by Native Americans”…
