Back inside, Marisa phones Lisa to let her know that someone from construction, “Mike, I think is his name, was just here regarding the water”. Lisa asked, “when will it get fixed”? Marisa responded, “it’s not getting repaired”, she was told, “There’s no evidence of water coming in anywhere…”. Angrily, the phone call continues for several minutes while they vent about what they perceive as poor service, commenting that further calls are forthcoming.

Surprisingly, the leak is never brought back to my attention again.

As the rain continues to fall, the weeks turn into months causing serious concerns to the project’s schedule. Failing to rain hard enough, or in the right manner, the stores don’t get water inside so it’s quiet in that way, however, another storm’s brewing.

With phones and emails rising sharply over the coming months, the corporate leaders only approve minor dollar amounts pointed at these repairs. Surprisingly, this particular store is only granted enough for us to go up and use

Commonly, while the project’s budget is developed, the center’s own maintenance is deferred and merged into the overall project allowing simple repairs to be accomplished readily. Nevertheless, repairs deemed intensionally procrastinated about or in direct abuse of protocol will lose their credence with the client, thus, causing slower repair times. As it is already, the process is convoluted by corporate involvement which requires them to review every repair request submitted along with a report from me. In the end, this process becomes too slow and tedious to maintain for the duration of the project, consequently, these tasks become mine alone. Over time, the client recognizes that I’m able to expedite the repairs faster and cheaper, while also reducing their involvement allowing them to focus more on their own
