Capitalism has been an economy that has spread over the world as a primary. Many see the benefits of Capitalism and its productivity, but what isn’t seen is the negativity. “The Study of Stuff”, a short animated documentary on the lifecycle of material goods, encircles this negativity that occurs through the following system of Extraction, Production, Distribution, Consumption and Disposal. During this system, our labor is being sold to corporations whom are bigger than the actual government, which leads to the government doing favors for the corporations. Examples are finding cheaper ways to create things with chemicals, fast foods. Or, products that are harmful for you like cigarettes. As long as the corporations are making money, they don’t care how they create, produce, and manufacture goods. That is why big Corporations will move their “Toxic Factories” to more poor 3rd world countries so that they can avoid having the pollution in the United States. And that’s exactly what’s going on with E-Waste being dumped in 3rd world countries. Capitalism’s “Planned Obsolescence”, or giving products an expiration date strictly in order to have customers coming back to buy their new products once the old ones are broken is also a reason for E-Waste going overseas. Computers and Cell phones change so much in such a short period of time, that every couple years you must upgrade computers just so you can keep up with the technology demand. And the best part about it is that usually all that changes in these products, is a little chip with a faster processor. So this little chip requires you to throw away your old computer and buy a new one because you can’t just replace the chip in your computer due to the company making it different. They do all this for one reason. Because
