Capital Punishment In The Death Penalty

Before an individual is healed from a disease or sickness, doctors must first target the root of the cause. Once that is resolved, the doctors are able to cure the source from the sick patient, which would benefit the survivors of sickness to perform his or her daily lives as healthy and without worry anymore. Capital punishment works in the same way. Until the government allows for the death penalty, innocent lives (the sick) are not able to fully live freely because the criminals (the disease) are still existent in their lives (the body). The subject of death penalty is still a highly debatable topic. There are those who strongly believe that the death penalty is unconstitutional and violates the amendments written in the constitution; however, …show more content…
Criminals are slowly accustomed to the small opportunities that prisons offer. A well-known short story written in 1904 called The Cop and the Anthem supports this claim. In this story, Soapy, a homeless man from New York City, purposefully commits crimes in order to get arrested and spend winter in prison knowing that being in prison provides adequate food and shelter (O Henry). Although the focus of this story shows his fail attempts to get arrested, the mindset behind his actions represent how people do not take prisons as too big of a punishment. If criminals were to have a bigger sentence such as death, it would deter crimes because the idea of capital death would place fear on criminals since his or her lives are now at …show more content…
Some might agree to keep the criminal behind bars because it is cheaper to do life without parole versus death penalty. In the process of a death penalty the respondent would have the right to two attorneys, court cost, petition, appeals, etc., which would add up. The 2006 study show that adding up the costs would be around or even more than $1,028,700 than doing a non-death penalty case (“What Costs More the Death Penalty or Life in Prison”). Looking at only the numbers, it sounds more reasonable and affordable to contribute to the alternates of death penalties. Although there are other options rather than the death penalty including life imprisonment, it is important to factor in the cost-benefit analysis. When a criminal is sentenced to death, it not only puts an end to creating more chaos in society, but also saves the lives of the innocent. It may not seem like the ideal option if only taking into money for account, but the end results would to be in favor of this penalty would be more beneficial in the long run. If the government used the money they saved from abolishing the death penalty and invested it on criminals who are sentenced to life imprisonment, it would still put society at risk to live in fear and worry. From a whole perspective, it is economically more worth it to impose the

Prison is a vacation for most prisoners they are fed three times a day, have a roof over their heads, and are given jobs. To allow them to live with a life sentence is giving them an easy out not the death penalty. By taking their life they will not be given the luxuries to see family, have meals, and live day to day.…

Housing prisoners adds up to an average of only $90,000 per year. (ACLU) Certainly, sentencing a criminal to life in prison without parole is more fair than being condemned to death. Decreasing the use of the death penalty will make it less likely that an innocent life will be taken for a crime of another person. (Valley Morning Star, 2015) Timothy Young, director of the Ohio Public Defender’s office argued that having the death penalty was not fair and life without parole would be better for the accused.…

In a study done by NBC news, results showed that in 2 cases of the death penalty the overall prices rounded well over a million dollars, while in cases where inmates were put on lockup for the same amount of time that it took as the death penalty case the average price for a inmate was nearly half at around 600k in which both cases were the same time span of 14 years. This information proves that the death penalty is much more expensive, and in which the money wasted in these cases could be put to a more efficient use especially knowing that that money is being supported by the taxpayers: everyone in the community doing well in the community which has to pay for a mistake that someone else did. Stopping the use of death penalty could save taxpayers a lot more money which can then be used for better things such as to enforce the law or make their community better, as well as all the time wasted during the cases could be more efficiently used to go thru various cases. Another reason why the death penalty is inferior is because it does not stop criminals. In a article by Notis she claims how crime rate is actually higher in states where the death penalty is available, therefore proving this punishment does not intimidate or stop criminals, Another reason why this punishment does not scare criminals could be that only a fraction of the people set on death row are actually killed which gives criminals the idea and mindset that they won 't get killed while they continue to do their crimes and why would they make the death penalty avalible if it is not really used.…

An individual may appeal his or her case, in the case that the appeal was denied the individual is able to appeal at a higher court level until all possibilities are exhausted. The court of last resort would be the United States Supreme Court which ultimately has the final say in any case. However, cases dealing with the death penalty take more time than other cases, a Colorado study “ revealed that capital proceedings require six times more days in court and take much longer to resolve than life-without-parole (LWOP),” (Costs of Death Penalty. 2016), after all sentencing a person to a life in prison is different from that of taking the life of an individual.…

Individual death penalty cases cost taxpayers an average of 2.3 million dollars which is about 3 times more than life in prison. Instead of putting taxpayers money towards capital punishment when there is no evidence that shows it deters criminals from committing a crime it should be put towards other facilities that prevent young adults from engaging in criminal activity in the future. “Children who receive early education are less likely to become criminals, which not only benefits society, but also saves the state money,” (“Cost”, n.d). Putting taxpayers money towards education lowers the chance of juveniles committing…
