To begin, capital punishment should not be abolished because it actually does deter crimes such as murder. Professors Hashem Dezhbakhsh, Paul H. Rubin, and Joanna M. Shepherd of Emory University found that on average that each execution resulted in 18 fewer murders. If the only punishment that people would receive for murdering someone would to be locked up in a cell and never have to worry about food, shelter, or health care anymore; then there wouldn’t be any deterrence at all. People are going to argue the matter most likely until the end of time. But capital punishment should still not be abolished for the fact that it has been easily proven to be a very effective deterrent, and has also been proven not to be racially biased. The system is still flawed in costing so much for capital punishment cases, with them just being drawn out and reviewed over and over. But in the end, capital punishment is meant to help protect lives and deter any future acts of wrongful doing, so the cost of a spared innocent life should never have to come into
