Throughout history there have been more than fourteen hundred executions in the United States. In the western hemisphere the United States is the only western democracy with capital punishment. Capital punishment is the use of murder as deterrence. In the United States there are thirty-one out of fifty states that have the death penalty. Capital punishment is normally given to bigger crime cases as a way to put an end. There are many concerns and beliefs that people have over when it comes to should capital punishment be allowed. Two philosophers argued their difference on the belief of capital punishment Van Den Haag’s argues that capital punishment should be allowed while Rieman disagrees.
Van Den Haag believes that there are four reasons on why capital punishment should be kept. One of the reasons he believes that the capital punishment system in the United States is unequally distributed. Van Den Hagg believes that just because he system is unequally distributed it shouldn’t be removed. He believes that we should still have this system around because it can help us with many heavy cases that need a stronger punishment. He believes capital punishment should be only given to murder cases because that is the appropriate punishment for that case.
As a second argument Van Den Hagg argues that time in prison shouldn’t be counted as deterrence. Deterrence is an action that is believes to prevent people from committing more crimes. Van Den Hagg believes that if people want to…
