Capital punishment in America has its pros and its cons. To some people this technique of taking someone’s life is unethical. Many believe that its what the person deserved and the family gets retribution. Capital punishment is a current issue in the criminal justice system and should be handled more carefully. I’m here to tell you both sides of the issue and state my position on this topic. I believe the death penalty is wrong and unethical. This is why all States should ban capital punishment from their laws. There are many cons for capital punishment in the criminal justice system. These cons include the cost of the execution, irreversible mistakes, deterrence, inhumane, etc. I will first start off with the cost of the executions. The cost …show more content…
This is just a very lengthy process in which the peoples tax money is going towards and could be going to better places. Millions of dollars in tax money are wasted on the death penalty and it should be going towards health programs and construction for our cities. For example, a man with life without parole costs one million dollars for fifty years. Even though that person may take up space in a prison, the state is saving money and that tax money can be put to better use. The second con to the death penalty is irreversible mistakes. Once someone is put on death row and is executed, there is no way to bring them back to life. Many innocent people have died on death row and it’s on the criminal justice system for that irreversible mistake. One out of every seven executions an innocent person is killed. Since the United States has had the death penalty, eighty-seven people have been proven innocent that were on death row. Today we have better technology to prove people innocent or guilty, but there can still be an error in the process. That’s when an innocent person is killed for the crime he or she did not commit. This is why human life is so precious and we should look into better ways to handle violent people
