A clean environment (e.g. air, water) is necessary for the sustenance of human life. Pollution is not only a problem for the poor neighborhood, but a concern to the whole country and societies set aside significant amounts money to help fight pollution and preserve environmental conditions. This spending attracts interests from many quarters, for instance, companies pay to safely dispose their waste or correct the effects caused by their production.
To determine if investment on the environment has improved life is highly subjective, and impossible for one to make a conclusive argument. However, the government should acknowledge the different side effects of an improved environment and the impact on the general living standards.
