Canned Good Drive Research Paper

Gentlemen of Distinction, a club I joined my senior year prompted me to participate and start a canned good drive. The underlying motives of the club was to help out the community and show the people that there are African-American teenagers doing good deeds. Compared to the activities we did before, this one was different. Figuring out how to help these people in need was an underlying issue my club was trying to figure out. There are a million possibilities that pop in our heads to help out the community. In high school my Gentlemen of Distinction Club came to the conclusion that a canned good drive would be the perfect way to help out our community. By analyzing these perspectives, we figured out that the project would cause a chain reaction of kindness. Also, the community would have a chance to help out these people directly without having to disclose their …show more content…
Their perspectives of us would be that they are very grateful and happy that people would give their canned goods to help feed them and their families. They see their situation as unfortunate and think nobody can help them, but when people do can good drives to help them it gives them hope to get back on their feet. The fact that the public cares about them and are donating food to them is an amazing gesture. I would closely relate the experience I had with the soup kitchen to the same as the can good drive. For instance, when I was doing a soup drive these people were extremely happy that they were getting food. To me I feel like the experience is next to the same as the canned good drive. Homeless or poor, once given these goods, are very gracious about the food no matter what it is. It could be name brand canned goods or store brand and they still treat it like it’s a meal from the best of the best stores. The opportunity they craved was fulfilled by the hearts of very gracious Samaritans, which they greatly

Something that motivated me to do this service was that I do this with my dad and my younger sister every year and we always have a good time doing this service since my dad likes making jokes and hiding on us when we are not looking and scare us. Also, it is always an experience to see who all donates. While handing out Tootsie Rolls I expected people to donate money because many people know about the good that the Tootsie Roll Drive provides.…

To begin, in my community I have come to respect those who help others in food pantries and in special needs schools through personal experience. One day my mom and I took a new route to my grandparents house and we came across the RCS Food Pantry. The next day we pulled up and talked to this sweet lady and she said that we could help package food for the homeless, so every Monday we would go and help out, it was a touching experience to see the look the homeless gave us when we gave them the food. One man I talked to was in the military and wasn't able to get a job because of his PTSD, it was sad the way he ended up but I vowed to help in the ways I knew how.…

I must have stood out like a sore thumb that day at the water drive. I was a Hispanic male in a predominately African-American region of Flint, Michigan, and naturally my presence on that cold April day sparked curiosity from every resident that had shown up. "Why are you in Flint?" , I was repeatedly asked throughout the day as I loaded cases of water into vehicles. I always gave the short answer: I drove over 600 miles to Flint with 40 cases of bottled water because it was the right thing to do.…

Essay one provided ways that I could teach my students how they can be proactive in their local communities. Once I read the essay about the canned food drive I had a different thought of canned food drives. Many school will hold a canned food drive and say they are giving to those in need, but I do not believe that they think about other needs that people living in poverty have. These people also need many daily essentials such as a toothbrush, soap, or even deodorant. This essay in my opinion gave so much insight on the underlying necessities that are needed by homeless people or people living in poverty.…

Napoleonic wars – Canning Since prehistoric times, humans have found multiple ways to make food last longer like drying, salting, smoking, and drying, but humanity has yet to find a method to preserve food in a state where it is nearly fresh, not until the late 1800s. The French directory, which was concerned about the military’s food supply because their soldiers were fighting in distant countries and are in constant need of rations, therefore, thinking that something had to be done in order for their forces to have a stable supply of food, they offered to award 12,000 francs to the person who can provide a solution to this problem. During my two volunteer experiences I participated in for the service learning portion of this class, I had the opportunity to witness many different walks of life. I was taken in on a side of poverty I’ve never before seen, and on a very intimate level. My first volunteer experience this semester was at a local food pantry, the Pratt-Quigley center. The neighborhood around the food pantry seemed very run down and poor. Shortly after arriving there, we were directed to the room where all the food was stored after it had been donated, waiting to be sorted.…
