Marijuana is a preparation of the Cannabis plant that is often used for its psychoactive results when smoked or eaten. It is commonly used in religious rites, for medicine, and for recreation. Many uses of cannabis are illegal, although Governor Nathan Deal legalized cannabis for medical use in April of 2015.
Many people want to legalize cannabis for recreational use in the state of Georgia. A few states, like Colorado and Alaska, have fully legalized cannabis for recreational use. Most states have legalized cannabis for medical use already.
Newsweek.com has noted that there are many unexpected side effects of legalizing cannabis. Many of these revolve around agriculture. Many farmers who grow the cannabis plant are unable to purchase pesticides for the plant because it is illegal to grow the plant in most states. This leaves them to experiment with various mixes of pesticides that could prove to be lethal. Pests for the cannabis plant will increase in number as more and more cannabis plants are grown. Even when those users stopped using cannabis later in life, they did not recover any of the lost IQ points. Cannabis does have a stronger impact on young users, one of the most likely age groups to use cannabis after its legalization.
Based on these facts, I believe that cannabis should not be legalized for recreational use. It shows significant permanent harm in adolescents, one of the largest age groups to use cannabis for recreational use. It also impairs judgement and reaction time, which impairs one’s ability to drive.
The agricultural risks of legalizing cannabis for recreational use are also of concern, in addition to the health risks of cannabis use. Pests for the cannabis plant could spread and harm other crops, and these crops could be much more important in agriculture as a
