Evolution does not occur by itself. It uses thousands of organisms that twist together to form all the life on this planet we call home. In our world, nothing exists in isolation yet everything is weaved together to form a complex system of evolutionary changes. In isolation, parasites could not survive and reproduce, plants could not spread their seeds, viruses could not infect their host, and organisms could not form adaptations from their environment that allow them to slowly evolve into better-adapted organisms. Parasites are organisms that need a host to survive and reproduce.…

Dogs can lower your risk of getting allergies. In one study a pediatrician at the University of Wisconsin analyzed blood from newly born babies’ and then one year later. He found that if the baby lived in a house with a dog, they were twenty-four percent less likely to have pet allergies, their chances decreased of getting an allergy skin condition called eczema, and they had higher levels of certain chemicals that show signs of a stronger immune system (Davis). Similarly, another study showed that it a family had two pets; there was a seventy percent reduction in sensitivity to all allergens (Coren 221). Pets, specifically dogs, lower a person’s chance of getting allergies because exposure to endotoxins found in their spit at a young age causes someone’s immune system to have a lower chance of reacting to certain allergens (Coren 222).…

For this assignment, the virus that I chose to research further was the rabies virus, from the genus Lyssavirus. The rabies virus is a single-stranded RNA virus with a cylindrical structure that is covered by a layer of matrix protein. Its lipoprotein envelope is scattered with rabies glycoprotein-carrying trimeric spikes. This glycoprotein envelope can also influence the rabies virus virulence. The article I read also covered the pathology of the rabies virus, prevention strategies, vaccines, and treatments.…
