Candidate Watson's Case Study

Decent Essays
Candidate Watson demonstrated a lack of understanding on how properly conduct a five paragraph order. SNC displayed a lack of confidence by stumbling through the brief, sounding timid and unsure of the information being passed to his subordinates. SNC’s brief ran together without each paragraph being specifically identified by saying “situation”, “mission”, “execution”, “administration and logistics”, and “command and signal”. SNC briefed improper information by saying they had to move the container with the chemical agent in it to the other side of the obstacle. The mission was to move the 55-gallon drum with communication and observation gear to the observation position. Once the mission began SNC was hesitant in making quick decisions

This assignment seemed just like any other. There was a deadline and guidelines and goals that were going to dictate the structure of it. I, however, didn’t know that I was wrong, and it was going to be far from any other. I have a habit, a detrimental one, that was slowly being fed and reassured as “ok” the more and more I went through my schooling. That habit has a name, procrastination, yet I never saw it as a problem because with every assignment and paper I wrote the night before and was able to get a decent grade, there was this unconscious signal that reassure me that if done once, it could be done again.…

SNC was able use the information provided to develop a thorough five-paragraph order. This proved to be a detriment to the candidate because his brief was nearly five minutes long. The SOM was too vague proving no executable information, but his Tasks assigned were very detailed, indicating that SNC had an initial plan to execute. SNC started off the execution being able to make decisions quickly and upon hitting a friction point he was able to adjust appropriately. SNC was not able to give orders with any sort of command presence.…
