When reflecting on my time at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck (BHFS) that is rapidly approaching its closure, one word comes to my mind and that is “refined”. My time at BHFS has refined skills in the following: basic office protocol, off the cuff research, congressional research, legislative tracking/research, and daily professional interactions. When asked if my desired outcome was reached I would answer with resounding “yes”, I am very grateful that I have had the opportunity to intern and learn at BHFS. Outcome/Goals Before departing to DC, I had two goals, 1) pin point a clear direction to pursue a career in lobbying/government relations 2) experience everything DC has to offer.…
Candidate Hills provided a thorough five paragraph order. Candidate Hills briefed with confidence, placing great emphasis on mission accomplishment, and briefing tasking statements with good detail and purpose, ensuring each member understood their purpose. However, Candidate Hills somehow became disoriented during the execution of movement to contact; he began walking in a 45 degree angle from his direction of attack and had to be guided back onto the correct azimuth by his fire team on at least two occasions before taking a casualty in the scenario. Candidate Hills' emphasis on mission accomplishment, and detailed tasking statements, played out well as he became the casualty requiring his fire team to quickly adapt to the newly developed…
Candidate Bonner addressed all the required portions of the five paragraph order. It was clear and concise and he repeated his mission statement twice. He did not address security nor did he implement security. While executing the mission, SNC made adjustements to his plan rather quickly. SNC made his first adjustment to the plan at four minutes thirty seconds into the execution.…
Candidate Garnica delivered a five paragraph order that lacked information and used filler words while briefing. She maintained good eye contact with the members of her team and was confident in her delivery. SNC failed to brief any of the "admin and logistics" and "command and signal" paragraphs. Although Candidate Garnica briefed a scheme of maneuver during the brief, it was obvious that she had not created an actual plan before beginning the execution. There was no clear transition between the end of the brief and the start of the execution.…
Candidate Sinclair, hereby referred to as SNC, confidently briefed a clear and logical order, however completely omitted the Admin and Logistics and Command and Signal paragraphs. At no time during the brief did SNC address the paragraph title or the information which should have been contained in those paragraphs. SNC issued a poor, partially-developed plan. SNC employed two subordinates as security and mandated these candidates provide security reports every 40 seconds; these subordinates were within 10 meters of SNC. SNC sent SNC’s remaining subordinate to continually physically check on the other two subordinates providing security.…
Candidate Bills delivered a very thorough and in depth five paragraph order. SNC was very diligent in ensuring that all information and additional information was passed to the fire team, at one point causing SNC to stumble over his thought process, and pause for a length of time to recoup his thoughts before moving on. This visibly flustered SNC. SNC lacked a sense of urgency by taking up a substantial amount of time to deliver the order. Upon completing the brief SNC took more time to square himself away failing to give any guidance to the fire team resulting in zero productivity.…
Candidate Rudd stumbled through his entire brief and quickly lost composure while briefing in a quiet and nervous tone of voice. SNC did not brief all of the Orientation paragraph, made up or stole details from previous scenarios that could potentially drive the mission, and his Execution paragraph lacked relevant, actionable information and tasking statements. Once his fire team received contact, SNC froze and completely ignored the need for an ADDRAC, haphazardly trying to buddy rush in an unspecified direction. Upon receiving contact, SNC was unable to process the fact that one of his team members was a casualty, and he remained unable to make a decision while receiving light small arms fire. SNC bounced back and forth between closing with…
During the execution phase of his assault SNC maintained good control while patrolling but once they took a casualty SNC posted himself on that casualty to take care of and sent his teams forward to advance on the enemy. Eventually his team members were advancing without guidance from their team leader, so he…
7. SNC gave a great five paragraph order it was very detailed and straight to the point. SNC clearly articulated what he expected from each member of his fire team and assigned each member a task. SNC did lack a sense of urgency throughout the entire evolution that slowed down the progression of the mission. SNC was able to maintain great control of his fire team through decisive decision making during the execution.…
Schlossberg After two attempts to attend a PWI in the Deep South and Midwestern region in a God’s own country and received inhumane treatment. I decided to try a HBCU in the Deep South due to affordability. I instructed my childhood friend to sell my properties and transferred the money to me in US in order to pay for my tuition, feeding and books. Having received the money, I packed all my belongings and bought a plane ticket from up north to Deep South. Before my departure, some of friends in the north convince me not to go back to the Deep South…
Candidate Countryman posted security and had a team start making a terrain model for him while he was receiving his brief, showing good use of his team-members and good time management. His brief delivery was at a normal volume and conversational tone, but had only limited eye contact throughout the brief. He provided a thorough assessment and description of the enemy situation, and discussed higher and adjacent elements in the friendly situation. He did not brief the Administration or Logistics paragraphs, but just said “Same as the base order, we’re not changing anything.” He did not provide the location of the Platoon Commander or Platoon Sergeant and did not have a succession of command, only briefing it after being prompted by a team…
SNC started off and finished very assertive while maintaining good character and tact while giving the brief and executing the order. While giving the order, SNC gave very detailed and precise instructions to the fire team. The fire team did appear to be non-responsive to the SNC. During execution, the fire team immediately responded to SNC's direction and tactics with no apparent blowback to SNC. During execution, one of the fire team’s weapons went down and SNC failed to acknowledge this as they were preparing to continue rushing.…
Kelly scooted around the boulder, making sure her head was below than the ridge. As she peered around the edge of the colossal boulder and was quickly met with a spray of blue-white plasma. The Spartan Rabbit moved back behind the boulder and swore under her breath. With a shake of her head, she informed her team that there was trouble ahead.…
After from travelling from Thailand to Melbourne, on the 17th of December Olaf Dietrich was arrested for importing approx. 70 grams of heroin, concealed in condoms that he had inserted in his body by swallowing it. The trail lasted around 40 days as Dietrich was forced to represent himself. He tried to attain legal representation but was unfortunate as, the Legal Aid Commission of Victoria, rejected his claim as he was pleading not guilty. He also applied to get assistance from the Supreme Court, but they denied his application as he did not complete the application within the time period he needed to.…
