Cancer is one of the major human health problems worldwide, with high social and economic impacts. There is evidence of this disease in antiquity, dating back to the times of the Pharaohs in ancient Egypt and the classical world (Nobili et al., 2009). Currently, worldwide, one in seven deaths is due to cancer; it causes more deaths than AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined.
