This theory states that: “Social reality is created through interaction and shared meaning. Social reality exists as an objective reality which individuals subjectively experience, to which they respond and, acting collectively, can change.” As I was watching this video I definitely see that in Mary’s case her “mental representations of [her] self, each other, and, in turn a habitual social system” has kept her from watching out for her health and in turn her health has suffered greatly. But what I like about this theory is that it says that people can change their understanding of themselves and even change society. If we construct society then we have some freedom to change society as well. So Mary does have some freedom and I can see that in the film. She has been able to raise her children by herself and she was able to create a life that was good even though she was not given much by her

The Setting of the novel plays a big part in the role of the women. I am going to look at the role of women in the following novels; Catch-22, A Clockwork Orange, The Merchant of Venice and Catcher in the Rye; as well as the role of women in the time that the writers wrote the novels. I am going to prove that both the author’s setting and the character in the novel’s setting is affected by the way in which women are portrayed in the novel. The setting is, in turn affected by the historical events, the philosophy and the beliefs of the era.…

The idea of functionalism is really brought to our attention during the cafeteria screen when they’re discussing the cliques.…

In recent discussions of George Orwell 1984 a controversial issue has been whether our world is headed to a world of technology. George Orwell predicted that by the year 1984 we will be living with technology and will be a way of life. It starts small with propaganda selling you things like phones or computers not for you to believe it’s a luxury, but to make you believe you need it. “We shall meet in the place where there is no darkness (Orwell 124).” This means that there is a place for everyone where everything is perfect and there is nothing bad that can hurt you again.…
