Everyone knows somebody with it, someone who's beaten it, or somebody who's died from it. If you haven't figured out what's being talked about alright, it's cancer. Cancer is something present in everyday life, even the dinosaurs had cancer way back in the mesozoic era. Cancer has been around since the beginning of time, approximately 65 million years ago. With all the advancements of medical science made in the 21st century it presents a valid question, why haven't scientists discovered a cure for cancer yet. There are conspiracy theories that state that all of the big cancer society's around the world aren't really working for cure at all. According to Peter Crosta “cancer harms the body when altered cells divide uncontrollably to form lumps or masses called tumors” (Crosta, 17, September 2015). These tumors grow uncontrollably without inflammation, making it hard to catch the cancer before it has spread to other adjacent body parts. This is why people who check their bodies regularly for irregular growths are at an advantage to those who do not. If cancer tumors were to be inflamed and painful when they grew many people could find the tumor and seek medical help before it's too late and prevent these cancerous cells from spreading all throughout the body. “Cancer cells are able to spread through the body do to their adhesion properties” (Crosta, 17, September 2015). Cancer cells form on the tumor, but since the cancer cells aren't very adhesive or sticky they break off from the tumor and float through the bloodstream to other parts of the body. This is how cancer spreads and why it is so important to catch it in its early stages. To back up this statement Crosta says that “only 10% of cancer deaths are caused by the primary tumor”(Crosta, 17, September 2015).
