This is a disease that effects millions of individuals each year, causing their families to suffer as well. There are hundreds of forms of this sickness. It does not attack any specific gender, race, status, body type, age, etc. of person, therefore no one is safe from the illness. This very frightening and treacherous disease is known as cancer. I have chosen cancer for my final project due it hitting very close to home. I have lost many family members to this disease over my lifetime. Even though, many of my love ones have passed from the dangerous illness or even fighting for their survival now, I haven’t fully understood what cancer actually is. What is cancer?
Cancer is, “A malignant and invasive growth or tumor, especially one originating in epithelium, tending to recur after excision and to metastasize to other sites,” according to Dictionary.com. In other words, cancer is irregular cell growth that mutate, while invading and/or spreading to parts of the body. Considering the body is made up of cells, cancer can affect any area of the body. This is why there are hundreds of types of cancer: lung, breast, ovarian, colon, skin, etc. the list goes on and on. Although there is tons of research on cancer, there is not one cause of this disease. There are many risk factors that aid in the development of cancer such as; age, alcohol, diet, hormones, obesity, radiation, sunlight, smoking, genetics, food additives, parasites, chronic stress, etc. Due to the wide range of…
