The bone structure is made up of bone tissues (compact and cancellous), fibrous tissue, hyaline cartilage and adipose tissue. Cancellous bone tissue is an inner spongy area found in long, short and flat bones. Compact bone tissue is the hard, outer shell which gives the bone its strength.
Fibrous tissue, also known as the periosteum surrounds the surface of all bones, except the forming of joints, and protects and nourishes the bone. Hyaline cartilage is found at the extremities of bones at a moveable joint. Adipose tissue, or bone marrow is found in the spaces of cancellous bone tissue and is where blood cells are made.
