Due to the growing popularity of social media sites, Canadian Tire and Midas have made their presence known on: Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare. The largest presence is seen on Facebook. When going onto the Canadian Tire Facebook page you are exposed to a number of options. First, it will tell you about the company, and display the most recent flier; its newsfeed is full of events happening in the community along with present promotions. Their Twitter page has the same format and information, but with fewer followers. When Canadian Tire or Midas is typed into the search box on Foursquare, it will tell you where to find the closest Canadian Tire or Midas as well as give hours of operation, and a phone number. Both these businesses, Canadian Tire especially, are allowing the consumer to seek them out. They are adapting to social media sites by being interactive instead of intrusive. Canadian Tire and Midas have adapted their marketing strategies to be more mobile and easily accessible from a mobile device. Mobile marketing takes place in two forms. Each business’ website, when accessed by a mobile device - such as a smartphone - will automatically take the form of a mobile site without having to physically click on that option. Mobile sites are easier to read and move around on. At the top of Canadian Tire’s mobile site it says: ‘tap here to download mobile app’. That directs consumers’ attention to the second form of mobile marketing: an app. On Canadian Tire’s mobile app, it has the entire website, which can be accessed by a tap of the screen.
