Canada! Canada! Canada! Here we come. I will never forget the time I went to Canada. I was waiting all my life to go Canada. I heard it has fresh air, colorful buildings and an amazing downtown. It was fantastic to visit Canada. I heard my mom waking me up from my cozy bed. Than it was time to head over to Canada! When I got to the car my mom and my 2 brothers came to the car and then my dad started to drive. In a few minutes I was getting bored like a pickle in a jar. After 5 hours we were in Canada. First I saw skywheel, a haunted castle, ice cream, the Niagara Falls boat, and a gold man that gave people necklaces if they gave him money. My body was pounding all over downtown. Next my family went to a hotel. It wasn’t as fancy as I thought

Like all previous cycles of booms and busts, the seeds of the subprime meltdown were sown during unusual times. As the global financial crisis (GFC) of 2008 erupted, the worst recession since the 1930s elicited unprecedented action from nations and their central banks. However, through the chaos, Canada appeared to have weathered the storm unscathed. In his work, Canada’s Housing Bubble Story: Mortgage Securitization, the State, and the Global Financial Crisis, Alan Walks describes Canada’s experiences during and after the financial crisis. To do so, Walks outlines four broad objectives: cross-examine Canadian policy history, challenge Canadian exceptionalism propagated by mainstream media, evaluate the policies pursued by the Canadian government, and finally deduce the implications on Canada’s mortgage market and rising household debt.…

Times have been rough, but I am sure you are aware of this. I am writing to you in a time of extremely dire circumstances. During a case I was part of not too long ago a discourteous lawyer absolutely engulfed in his work decided to say such words that have lifted a forgotten sprit within me. After speaking to the Attorney General about allowing 'mixed company' to be present in cases about prostitution, I was much too overjoyed about winning that I failed to realize the many injustices that are still prevailing, ruining our fellow sisters. It is because of this reason that when I heard such infantile words come out of that lawyers mouth was I absolutely appalled.…

The vanishing Canadian is first and foremost, a recollection of White and native relations after the natives degradation. Particularly, the majority of it focused on artistic relations. But perhaps the most pressing aspect is what sells in our culture. Rather than the white consumer wanting authenticity, and education, they want exploitative entertainment. It is for this reason that artists like Paul Cane gained immense respect and notoriety, while others such as Edmund Morris died without recognition.…

A Move to the South The loud noises of car screeching to a stop, train horn blaring, or police sirens flaring. The typical big city noises that everywhere gets woken up to at night was about to come to an end. North is very different from the South, so trying to adapt would be harder than I ever imagine. It was the summer after 2nd grade, so I was 8 years old.…

There isn’t anything more breathtaking than going Up North. If you’re not from Michigan you might be wondering, “Where up north?” In Michigan we use “up north” as a term for the upper half of the mitten, I’d say from the top of the thumb up. The UP (Upper Peninsula) can be considered Up North but normally it's just the UP.…

Explain how you see the Canadian identity. Although there are many interpretations of what one sees as a Canadian identity. I see Canada as a ‘cultural mosaic’; a multicultural country where different cultures and identities coexist peacefully. In other countries, assimilation is integrated as part of the immigration process, and even require the immigrant ‘to fit in’ with the culture.…

What makes a Canadian Canadian? This question was hard to answer having lived here for only a year. In fact, I knew nothing about Canadian history before taking this class, and I don’t watch Hockey. So my initial thought about Canadian was that they don’t have distinct identity that binds them together. In a multicultural society that doesn’t assimilate but integrates other cultures, it was difficult to find a single thing that defines Canadian identity.…

The University of Southern California is a top notch facility with premier applicants from every corner of the world, each with something that is essential to understanding them. As for myself, I feel as if my story would not be complete without telling the tale of my rural upbringing. Coming from a modest town of 2,144 residents in northwest Indiana, my day to day experiences have been a lot different than those I would encounter in Los Angeles, California. While going from being surrounded by people who ride their donkeys to school to being surrounded by people who ride their long boards to school would be quite a culture shock, it is exactly the type of adjustment I need to transition into my adult life. Although the environment I grew…
