The very first process of the election begins when the government asks the Governor General to call an election because the term is nearing end of 5 year cycle or there is a lose vote on a bill, also known as a vote of non-confidence, in the House of Commons. The Governor General then issues proclamations dissolving Parliament and directing that the writs of election be issued by the Chief Electoral Officer, marking Day 0. Afterward, the returning officers open their offices to provide the services that will enable electors to exercise their right to vote, receive candidates' nomination papers and deposit of $ 1000.00, and print the regular ballots.
